Show I How Girls Should Marry. vThe marriage of Anna Gould and the marriage of Alice Roosevelt are wonderful object lessons to American girls. But beyond them both young American women should keep in mind that to marry great wealth or high station does not guarantee a happy life,, and the girl that is d .er-mined .er-mined to have one or the other or both, is onot sure that hers will be a bed of roses. About all the real happiness that comes of marriage must be looked for in the confidence and trust that come as a benediclton to home with love for a foundation. Before any girl marries she should read these words from Richelieu: "Bah! the mate for beauty Should be a man, and not a money chest! When her brave sire lay on his bed of death, I vowed to be a father to his Julie; And so he died the smile upon his lips! And when I spared the life of her young lover, Methought I saw that smile again!" I have tried him: He has honor And courage; qualities that eagle-plume Men's souls and fit them for the fiercest sun, Which ever melted the weak waxen minds That flutter in the beams of gaudy Power!" |
