Show The Gambler's Farekvell. By A. K. N. The gambler swayed at Johnny's bar, with inward sobs he shook; He tugged at johnny's black seegars, and varied drinks he took; He thought of all the "orphs" and "wids," the dire deeds he'd done, The plunder he had pillaged and the pesos he had won; And then he fixed his face and spoke, and bravely tried to smile, As a tear gleamed on his eye-lash ere it splashed splash-ed upon the tile. CHORUS. Give me a drink of booze, John, Some pent up lava flame; For the kyards are stacked agin' me And I shorely needs the same; I've got to try another deal (I'm tellin' you no lies) ; I'm goin' to quit the cloth of green And euchre railroad ties. A hush fell on his fellow gams, and each one warmly shook The hand of him who made the speech, Ezek, the Faro Crook; Each gam was thinking of his home, all this was clearly seen, Of mother standing at the door and the long, long ties between; And in each heart a prayer was said, to the tuneful tune-ful highball's clink, And as is usual with a gam, the p. yer was for o drink. CHORUS. Give me a drink of booze, etc. Then each gam, as he said good bye, his faithful Gatling felt, (First pausing while he slipped another drink beneath be-neath his belt) ; And ere they moved from Mahon's bar to the darksome village streets, They rent the solemn evening with three cheers H for Mr. Sheets; And as their farewell footsteps splashed out in the snow and rain, To watchful John was wafted back that beauti- i ful refrain: CHORUS. ! Give me a drink of booze, John, etc. |
