Show According to the Argonaut nearly a million dollars' worth of precious stones and jewelry will be put upon the market by the trustees of Leland Stanford Junior University. The collection belonging to the late Mrs. Jane Stanford is world famous. Tho jewels were gifts from tho late Senator Stanford to his wife, made at various times during their lives, and comprise some of the largest ropes of diamonds in existence. Some of the rubies in the collection are said to be tho most valuable in the world. The emeralds and pearls have also been for many years tho envy and admiration admira-tion of lovers of precious stones in all parts of the United States. In 1899 Mrs. Stanford deeded these jewels to tho trustees of the University. Univer-sity. Just prior to her fatal journey to Hawaii Mrs. Stanford executed a document providing that upon her death these jewels should be sold and tho proceeds of the sale used to form a library fund. Her wishes in this re spect are now about to be carried out. |
