Show THE ORPHEUM. There's a corking good show at the Orpheum this week, a real circuit show, and something that anyone might witness more than once with new enjoyment at every performance. Nearly every act is a top-liner, and the general gen-eral hum of approval all over town demonstrates that the public appreciates the novelty. In all candor it must be said that it was a very much surprised public which emitted the hum and .after the villainous exhibition of former weeks, not to mention the passing of the Orpheum road show, the reason for the surprise was not perplexing. "The Unmasking," produced by Edwards, Davis and Company, is a great piece of work, uniquely modeled and beautifully finished. Mr.. Davis, Mr. King, Mr. Emerson and Mr. Olmi, the, men in. the tragedy, .were excellent, excel-lent, and Miss Hicks and Miss Van Dyne were of unusual attractiveness. Eleanor Hicks is really worth more than passing attention. She has a personality Maude Adams-like in its effect . upon the audience. The detail of the little play was perfect, and it cannot be too highly commended. Klekko and Travoli are so fierce they are ,e worth the money for a good-laugh, and at last ' J the renowned Cherries have successors. ' . i La Gette did some gymnastic work in the air : j that was very exciting, but Welch and Maitland were the star attractions in this line. The way they turned inside out and stretched into impossible shapes constituted a marvelous exhibition. Hallen and Hays are the best dancers that have had occasion to entertain us, and those who think there are no new steps in the world must not miss the opportunity of seeing them. ' Joe Newman was fair in his quiet little way.. |
