Show THE PRESIDENT. On this New Year's day the President of the United States deserves the hearty congratulations congratula-tions of the whole people of the United States. He stopped the war between Russia and Japan; by the act stopped unnumbered woes in the far East and brought to his own country increased respect and prestige. His visit to the South melted the ancient bitter prejudices from millions mil-lions of souls; in his high place he has given repeated re-peated evidences of his determination to make if possible, the government as clean as it is great; he has for himself caused the people of all parties par-ties to believe that he lacks neither in courage nor in integrity, and that what mistakes he may make will never come through any selfish or dishonest motive. He has millions more friends than he had a year ago; he is the best example of what only high motives and unswerving courage can win for a man in exalted station that has been revealed to the American people since Mr. Lincoln died. To his family and to the nation at large he can with dignity acknowledge that he has been greatly blessed in every way, and if one of his H old-time frontier friends calls upon him arid says: ,! "Mr. President, you have been playing1 in the biggest luck on record," he can smilingly respond, "You bet." , |
