Show GOLF. Mr. Leonard has the heartfelt thanks of all genial foozlers and cheerful sclaffcrs for widening and banking bank-ing up the board sides of the bunkers going to second, third and seventh greens. Also for the greatly improved im-proved condition of the greens. With the hazards six feet wider it is now possible to play over, sometimes some-times for a respectable distance. Formerly it was simply a case of play back, losing not only a stroke but sometimes considerable distance. , Well, you have no business to drive into the bunkers, bunk-ers, anyway. Please assassinate those sheep. They have eaten everything but the stones and the greaseweed. About all they are good for now is to get the tin water cans over their heads and furnish a little amusement for the dusty players. They 'are becoming a nuisance Their tramping and browsing has certainly improved the course, but until some one turns on the rain, the dusty course, stripped bare by the sheep, will cause sonsiderable cursory language, and spoil a lot of scores. But a bully good rain would make tho course a joy. Mrs. Fischer turned in a score of 58 for the nine holes Wednesday. This is the best score made by any of the women players this season. Nevertheless, n small angelic hunch comes to me that 58 will not stand long. And this with my sunbonnet off to Mrs. Fischer for her decidedly clover play. Not only she, but Miss Ilarkness, Mrs. Officer and several others ai-c rapidly getting into golfing form. Even now their short game is equal to that of a majority ma-jority of the men players. The evnts today are a putting and approaching contest con-test near the club house? and a driving contest from the fourth tee. The latter will not bo a handicap affair, as was the case last season, but there will be separate contests for tho men and women players. I. Golfsome. |
