Have any of them- given any reason why ' r any Utah men should vote the Democratic ticket ii on its merits? t All of them have told of tho sacredness of the1 fundamental principles of the Democratic party, and not one of them could name a half-dozen of ' them to save his life. Most of them were horn with Hamilton, Washington, Marshall, Franklin, Adams, Sherman and that school, and Jefferson when he became- President jumped the claim and . got the patent on them. And by the way the mod- ' era Democracy have repudiated the most of them. , But no matter, has one of these great orators, local or imported, given one single reason why the people peo-ple should vote the Democratic tioket, because of ' , its inherent principles? I Has not their whole oase rested on the faults, i' short-comings and dangers Involved in electing the Republican ticket? We think so. ' Now what would a court think were a criminal on trial be s fore it, to olaim as a good defense, that no mutter j j what his record was, he was a more reliable man than the scoundrel of an attorney who was pros- , ecutlng him, or the witnesses against him? HRf However Ingenious that defense might be, Bl would it be likely to make a case for the ac- H cused? Hj The Democracy have plenty to say about Roose-H Roose-H velt, molt of which they coin from their imagl-K imagl-K nations, or steftl from eastern hired liars they B can spend hours in inveighing against the Philip H pine policy and the Panama purchase and they B would not make a change in either if they had B the President and both houses of Congress they H cry their eyes out over the trusts just as they did Bj twelve years ago and now, as then, they are sup-B sup-B portfhg a trtlst candidate for President, and this Bf year a trust candidate for Vice President-they Bj wail over a too high tariff and claim It should be Bj v revised but keep in the background their intends inten-ds tion to everlastingly smash it if they get a chance, H they toll how great a judge Judge Parker Is and H cannot cite an opinion to prove it; they tell how Bf! high and pure his charaoter is and know that his Hj pet friends have always been of the Hill-Sheenan Hj and Murphy style; they tell about his statesman-K statesman-K ship like mind and know that no microscope could H find a trace of It from anything he has ever spoken H or written; they toll about the extravagance of H the present administration and know it is not true H and that if they had a chance they would not break H their rule, but add to the government expenditures B millions of dollars; they talk and keep talking, H but have any of them advanced one thought to Bl convince any honest man that they really bave f any principles or that they should be trusted with H the handling of this great government or that they Hf have the necessary capacity to bandlo it success-B success-B H Has any one of them given one good and suf- H Sclent reason why the Democratic party should ex- B 1st at all? |
