And H m would the other ladies who are not really "it" bo H M j. willing that it should be discussed? I do not moan H w who leads this clique or that, who holds the reins H 8j for the younger set or the older- set, or any other H m ' ' old set, but who is the most prominent woman in H M the social life of tho town, if there is "any such H k pusson"? H fit I am going to discuss tho matter at length, and Hj ft names are going to bo mentioned. It is going to H 'fi ; be a difficult matter, and many suggestions will j bo thankfully ideeived. Frankly, I don't think it H n L" possible to find tho leader, but I'll make a hard H E i try, and then jump sideways for tho rest of the HI 1 season. II H gj i Senator and Mrs. Thomas Kearns entertained IF Monday and Tuesday evenings. J ni I Tho principal gayeties of tho coming week will H I center in Thanksgiving day, which will be given H i Eg up to football, the theaters, homo affairs and large B J ', I dinners at tho different clubs. Ir Mr. Will Lawrence will give a coaching party y and a large dinner afterward, and there will be ft many other events of the kind. Mr. and Mrs. David Murray gave a keno party last evening, much to the delight of a large num- " ber of friends. Every ono hard been cautioned 1 not to como without pockets full of nickels, and L they obeyed to the letter. The result was either I disastrous or beneficial, as the case varied, but the evening was good fun. Tuesday afternoon the Chavier quartette, Mrs. Putnam, Mrs. Loomis, Mrs. Richardson and Miss Morris gavs a charming afternoon musicale at tho homo of Mrs. Putnam. It was a novel event, I and a thorough success, the musical programme J i lasting most of the afternoon. Besides the numbers num-bers given by the quartette, Mrs. Melvin of Wash- j ; ington, Mrs. Andrews and Miss Duncan assisted MS lj ! , with tho music. Hi !' HB j ; ' Mrs. Robert Walker entertained at luncheon on H9 ' I Thursday afternoon in honor of Mrs. Buhl Hn j & of Pennsylvania. The event took place at the Alta EXj club, and twenty guests enjoyed the event The Hi j i table decorations by "Morris" were exquisite. IiH I Smilax and ribbons were looped from the chanda- 1 1 lier to large baskets of red carnations which were i arranged effectively on tho table. t The card party given on Tuesday by Mrs. Rob- ert Glendinning was a pretty affair. The house j was decorated with chrysanthemums and carna- tions and autumn leaves. Mrs. A. C. Allen, Miss j ; Miller and Miss Kimball won the prizes. Mrs. H. G. Whitney gave a Kensington Wednes- m day afternoon. I Theater parties were given Tuesday evening by 1 Mrs. McLaughlin, Mr. and Mrs. Georgo Y. Wal- 1 lace, Col. and Mrs. B. F. Holmes and Mr. and Mrs. 1 Henry Dimvoodey. 1 Mr. and Mrs. W. V. Rice entertained at supper m at the Commercial club after the theater. i Mrs. La Forge will give a grown-up children's w party on Thanksgiving evening. Capt and Mrs. Sturgiss havo returned to Fort W Douglas. Grant has returned from New HiE York. Htj Mr. and Mrs. Eskridge will be here the first of BSl tho month, to visit Mr. and Mi's. David Keith, HI : Miss Edith Hale will spend Christmas in this city. Invitations have been issued by Mr. and Mrs. Shelp for an evening party December 2nd. Mrs. Shelp will also give a luncheon on December 3rd. Miss Matie Kimball entertained informally Monday evening. Mr. Hoyt Sherman and Miss Laura Sherman leavo for New York on Monday. Continued on page 10.) Society, Conttnued. Mrs. Guy Palmer is visiting in the city. Mr. and Mrs. S. V. Shelp entertained at dinner on Wednesday in honor of Mrs. Buhl. One of the best arranged functions of the week was the violet luncheon given at the Commercial club on Tuesday by Mrs. Walter G. Filer for Mrs. Burns-MacDonald. Mrs. Clement gave a dinner for eight on Thursday. Thurs-day. It was one of those delightful small affairs for which this hostess is becoming noted. Mrs. Joseph Richards has gone to New York. Mrs. George K. Fischer is hostess at the Country Coun-try club today. Mrs. W. A. Nelden has returned from the East. Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Chaiming and Miss Burke have returned from New York. Mrs. Walter Ellerbeck and Miss Genieve Eller-beck Eller-beck will entertain at a large reception December 1st. A wedding of much local interest was that of Miss Emma Davison and A. P. Tavlor of the Honolulu Hon-olulu Advertiser. The wedding took place in Honolulu, Hon-olulu, and the ceremony was performed by the Rev. William M. Kincaid. The best wishes of all his old friends will go to '"Pete" Taylor and his bride. Miss June Mclntyre gave a card party Wednesday Wednes-day evening for Miss Holabird of Los Angeles. |
