H J The Grand Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday H ! and Wednesday matinee, Harry Ward's Minstrels; Bj V , Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and Saturday Hi f f ' matinee, "Side Tracked." H f I "Friends." H' i w The changes in Mr. Roylo's "Friends" are so H, I S ploasing and his acting and that of his wife's is Hi I so perfect, and the support so adapted to the work H: I I in the clever play that it seems like new. Hj H "Friends" in its new dress and the happy climax H' 11 m, is one of the finest things that has graced Mr. H H w Pyper's boards this season, and the engagement H n jB was a notable one. I I The epigrams alone that sparkle through thd H ' m play are worth going to hear, but aside from them, ! 8 I there is a brilliant wit that scintilates through HSU every act. H W But the great point of the play is that it is H . W natural. Pretty here, emotional there, glittering ! I I in another place, but above all, natural. H ft W Mr. Hoyle must not think of dropping H fi I, "Friends" for some time to come. He wrote it, H f 'n and knows it perfectly, and makes a character of H w W Padden that is a work of dramatic art E 5 1 I, Manager Pyper was the recipient of many com-H com-H m l pliments during the week for the way he called H K 1 the four-flushing Warfleld people, but the most de-I de-I K T lightful part of tlie whole thing was that "The I m !fi Auctioneer" didn't reach 'Frisco till Tuesday I I J mqrning. There has been too much of this last B fl) j I night double cross on the public, and Mr. Pyper's H w m course was entirely justifiable. It will be remem-H remem-H Mtt j bered that Frank Daniels sprang an understudy a w year ago, and the Bostonians played their chorus H f ( out in front the last night This was convenient H jfc, for the stars, but didn't appeal to those who paid. H M B n H : "A Trip to Chinatown", the great farce comedy H ' ' j with a first class company, complete scenic equip- I ! i . ment and a lot of bright catchy music and clever H ; I specialties will be presented at the Salt Lake Theatre H i t II next Thursday (New Years), for two performances H , HI. Special prices, 50 cents for adults and 25 cents for H i ; m children have been fixed for the matinee. W Little June Mathis of this city is the star of tho "Whose Baby Are You" company that plays a week at the Grand beginning a week from Monday. Mon-day. Fat and Funny Frank Daniels comes to the Theater the first three nights of the week, playing play-ing Miss Simplicity, the Eastern comic opera success. suc-cess. It is said that he is funnier than ever, but that seems impossible. Daniels always has great houses in this city, and the sale is large already. ? nB W ?fv-''r ""vf Nvt V J''' jiS;. B'RiSKtP Frank Daniels. Haverly's Mastodon Minstrels will be at the Theater the last of the week, headed by inimitable inimita-ble George Wilson of "Waltz Me Again" fame. It is said that the show is replate with good humor, fine music, and a large number of clever acts in the Olio. The band brings all the new music from "The Chinese Honeymoon," "Dolly Varden," "The Chaperones," and "The Wild Rose." "Foxy Quiller." "Foxy Quiller" is a beauty bright, and Golden fairly glitters. As a general thing the dear public is a trifle timid about a new comic opera, headed by one who, while rated very high in the East, is not familiar to Western audiences. But Golden's "Foxy Quiller" is not an experiment, and the clever comedian is receiving the recognition he deserves. The opera is bright, the music pretty, and the wit of a high order. Those most ably assisting Golden are Leone as the Corsican, and Zink, the liliputian, and the rest of the support is good. See "Foxy Quiller" If you haven't |
