Show H CONSIDER FOR A MOMENT. B Republicans in Utah should keep in mind that H four-flfths of the old Libertl party were Republics Republi-cs cans in national politics. The present indepen-B indepen-B dent movement if started with an honest purnose, H would draw four Republicans to it to one Dem-B Dem-B Oorat. That was the purpose or one of the pur-H pur-H poses of the man who sprung this party on the H state at the eve of a presidential campaign. His H design was, if possible to elect Democratic state B- officers even if they gave the state to Parker and H Davis. No reasoning) man can fail to reach that B conclusion, for certain it is that, could, the chief B have made a bargain which would have secured Bj for him a re-election to the United States Senate, Bj this movement would never have been sprung B during the last weeks of a presidential campaign. B If Roosevelt is beaten by the change of three votes Bj in Utah from the Republican to the Democratic H candidates it may elect Parker and Davis. B Well they are running on a platform which H endorses reciprocity especially with Canada. Our B lead miners and wool producers should make a B note of that. There is no end of lead in Canada, B no ehd of wool. Reciprocity with Canada would B neutralize the tariff on both of these articles. l B would" be a blow of several millions of dollars to B sheep "and wool producers annually, it would close down every lead-silver mine in the state, except two or three. It would hit the beet-sugar industry in-dustry almost as hard a blow. With this done how would the merohants in Utah fare? It is easy to get excited, it is bad when men get so excited as to lose their wits. |
