Show County Commission Actions Are Listed Commissioners voted unanimously to pay one-half of the Building Maintenance Supervisor's health insurance, with the employee to pay the other half. He is a part-time part-time employee. Commissioenrs reviewed bids on furniture for the courthouse addition. Commissioners accepted the bid of Sevier School and Office Supply, Richfield. No amounts were listed in the minutes. Commissioners approved a holiday party for County employees and set the date of December 19. Commissioners let out bids to local insurance companies . for elected officials' bonds. December 5 Meeting: Jay Maughn, Cedar City discussed with commissioners the Youth Correction Program and the Center proposed for Cedar City. The County's position was that if a ay Garfield County commissioners George Middleton, Dell LeFevre and George Thompson met November 14, 29 and December 5 at which time they took the following actions according to approved minutes: November 14 meeting: Commissioners approved payment of $42,497 for phase two on the courthouse addition to contractor con-tractor Jack Maxwell. Commissioner agreed to pay - Silver Spur Masonry $1,052.10 for the extra work performed on the bricks at the courthouse addition. Commissioners agreed to give County employees four percent of their monthly gross income for the percent raise given on their retirement which was reduced on July 1. Commissioners met with Larry Sip, Bureau of Land Management, Hanksville; Burt Hart, Public Affairs; Af-fairs; Larry Greenhart, Henry Mountain area Office; and Ken Kuhlman, Outdoors Recreation Planner, all BLM, to review potential wilderness area. Commissioners Com-missioners agreed to lodge an objection ob-jection to areas reincluded in wilderness proposals. Commissioners named members to the newly formed Planning Commission. Their names were not included in the minutes. November 29 Meetings: Wayne Ross, administrator of Garfield Memorial Hospital, Bob Benfield and Mike Standi discussed with commissioners expanding the hospital. The eight-year-old building is limited in storage, office space, and other needed facilities, they claimed. Remodeling, they estimated, would require approximately ap-proximately $400,000. Discussion included how it could be bulit and with what monies. No decision was made. Commissioners agreed to offer Public Defender James Shumate an additional $100 per month. If refused, the job would be put up for bid. Commissioner appointed Brenda Shakespeare as Garfield County Pageant director. Commissioners voted to pay off the hospital bond, with the governing gover-ning board to follow up on selling the hospital with improvements. No amounts were included in the minutes on the bond. Commissioners Com-missioners Middleton and LeFevre voted in favor of paying the bond and selling the hospital. Commissioner Com-missioner Thompson abstained from voting. Commissioners decided that if the Sheriffs Department elects to participate again in Public Safety Retirement, the department will have to make its own contribution to take part. Commissioners voted unanimously to award all County employees and elected officials a $50 per month raise, with all elected officials to be allowed a travel allowance of $100 per month. County youth were in the Center, the County would help but that it generally did not want to help fund the Center. Maughn said that John Williams, Five County Associations of Government, will hold a meeting with commissioners on funding suggestions and that it is important to keep local youth in their own environment for treatment when required. Brent Owens and Mike Noel, BLM, discussed with commissioners the application of Sam Allen for right of way and suggested that it would be better if the County would make application for the one to one and one-httlf mile section of road. Thev were advised to prepare the right of way application and the County Attorney would present it to the commission. At 2 p.m a public hearing on the tentative budget was held with County employees as the only citizens present. Extension agent Verl Matthews questioned the 3.5 percent reduction in his budget from last year's amount which was 10 percent less than applied for. He pointed out that the $200 reduction for services rendered by Piute County to Antimony area residents would not meet the contracted amount with that County. Commissioners Com-missioners made the correction, restoring the $200 but refused any other increase saying that they had received complaints about excessive ex-cessive travel by the home agent and thus had reduced travel amounts. Commissioners signed the Resolution and Order declaring Henrieville, Cannonville and Tropic cemetery maintenance districts. County Attorney Pat Nolan informed commissioners that Public Defender James Shumate had agreed to take office again next year for an additional $280 per year. Commissioners agreed to the increase. in-crease. Commissioners agreed to pay one-half the cost of a microwave oven for the Council on Aging. Commissioners agreed to reimburse any employee who has more than 60 days sick leave in accordance with County procedures. |
