Show County Votes Friday In First Western Presidential Primary Garfield County voters will join voters from all over Utah on Friday, Mar. 10, to let the nation know their choice of candidates for the November presidential election. Polls will be open in all com-munities com-munities throughout the county from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. except for Ticaboo where voters will cast their ballots by mail. This first-ever Western States Presidential Primary was envisioned envi-sioned several years ago by Utah Gov. Mike Leavitt. It was hoped that all of the western states would unite to hold a presidential primary on a specified day in the Spring and that this unity would serve to draw the attention of national candidates to the concerns and issues of the West, and would require them to tour the region. Colorado and Wyoming legislatures have chosen to join Utah on the Mar. 10 date. The nation has watched the seesaw see-saw race between Texas Gov. George W. Bush and Arizona Senator John McCain. Now Bill Bradley is claiming a gain on Vice President Al Gore in the Democratic Demo-cratic race. All of Utah's GOP delegates are pledged to the winner of tomorrow's presidential primary. Voters may call for a ballot of their choice if they are registered as"unaffiliated". If they are regis tered as either Republican or Democrat they must call for the ballot of that party. Independents allow anyone to call for their Independent ballot. Antimony residents will vote at the firehouse, Boulder residents at the town hall; Cannonville residents resi-dents at their community center; Escalante residents at the communitysenior citizen center; Hatch residents at the town hall; Henrieville residents at the senior citizen center; Panguitch 1 and 2 voters at the county courthouse; and Tropic voters at the firehouse. Ticaboo Tic-aboo residents will cast absentee ballots by mail. As a public service, the Garfield Gar-field County Republican Party has posted a patriotic poster containing addiuonal information on this first Western Presidential Primary in each community. Precinct caucuses will be held on Monday, Mar. 27. At that time residents will choose local leaders for their party. Republicans wishing wish-ing to participate in the caucus, hold office, or become a delegate must register as a Republican. The regular Utah Primary will . be held next June 27 when all county, state and federal candidates will vie for a position on the general gen-eral election ballot of Nov. 6. |
