Show Petition Asks For New Ninth Garkane District The membership of Garkane Power Association will vote on whether to create a 9th director district dis-trict for the electrical cooperative so that members in the southern part of the company's service district will be more equally repre-sented. Garkane's official newsletter "Highlights" reported that a petition containing the signatures of well over 600 Garkane members was presented to the Board of Directors at their meeting on Jan. 24 in Tor-rey. Tor-rey. Those carrying petitions in the five southern districts reported more than a 1000 had been collected among the districts. The petition asks for a new district dis-trict which would include all Garkane customers in Arizona as well as those in the Big Water and Church Wells area of eastern Kane County, all previously a part of District 7 represented by Nolan Button of the Kanab area. The petition also asks for Mammoth Mam-moth Creek, Aspen Highlands, Bryce Woodlands, Bonanza Estates, and Long ValleyElk Ridge to be moved from District 8 in the Cedar Mountain area and added to District 5, the OrdervilleGlendale area district. dis-trict. District 5 is represented by Terry Griffiths, Orderville, and Niel Biggs, represents District 8. Both Button and Griffiths are up for reelection re-election in Garkane's upcoming director elections in April. All three men, along with Hugh Wilson who represents District 6, the BryceBryce Valley-Hatch area, were responsible for introducing the (See GARKANE on page 4-A) GARKANE From Front Page '" petitions and have been strong sup porters of creating a new district to allow Garkane members in the southern areas served by Garkane equal representation on the board which currently has eight members. District 6 would be unaffected by the change. More than 300 names were submitted from District 4 alone, petitioners claimed, the EscalanteBoulder area, represented by Marjie Lee Spencer of Escalante. Apparently no petitions were received re-ceived from Districts 1, 2 and 3 represented by LaDon Torgersen, Koosharem; George Blackburn, Fremont; and Michael Blackburn, Loa. The vote will be held in connection connec-tion with Garkane's Annual Meeting Meet-ing sessions in April. Ballots will be mailed to all members prior to the sessions. |
