Show Time Is Running Out To Sign Petitions are currently being circulated by Garkane Power Association board members and others recognizing the need for another director-district in the southern part of the power cooperative's service district. Time is running out for members to sign them. In order to change the corporation's Bylaws and create another district at the upcoming annual meeting Garkane Power's attorneys have ruled that 10 percent of the members' signatures must be obtained requesting it. Those signatures must be received by Garkane by Jan. 20, less than a week away. For some time, members in the southern part of the system have not been equally represented on the board of directors, allowing the fewer members in the northern part of the system to control the greater number of members in the south and south-central south-central part, particularly when they have been able to count on the support of the Districts (Escalante-Boulder) director. It is almost a given that, once another southern-central district is created, sufficient voting power will exist on the board to accomplish the move of Garkane' s headquarters from Richfield onto its own service system. Like the writer of today's letter to the editor, we, too, fail to understand why the board member from District 4 has consistently failed to vigorously support by her actions the logical and economically sensible move of the power cooperative's headquarters onto its own system of service. To the contrary, she has appeared both by her past voting record and by her failure in the past two weeks to distribute the petitions to be supporting those not in her district who oppose the creation of a 9th district and who oppose the headquarters move. We urge Garkane members in the southern and central area Districts 4 (Marjie Lee Spencer), 5 (Terry Griffiths), 6 (Hugh Wilson), 7 (Nolan Button) and 8 (Niel Biggs) if they want to be fairly and equally represented on the Garkane Board of Directors, to seek out a petition and sign it. Personalities have no place in the decision. It's really only about having directors and employees who will honestly represent what's best for Garkane. What's best for Garkane has to be best for its members. |
