Show Escalante News By Marlene Haws 826-4859 The first of last week brought enough rain to float a good sized rowboat and hail the size of golf balls. Water flooded basements and garages and sunk streets where new sewer and water lines had been laid. There was a power outage for two hours on Saturday, giving people a chance to rest their TV eyes for a while. We have moss growing on the north sides and we're all beginning begin-ning to walk a little web footed! The Henry and Liza Alice Heaps family reunion was held in Murray at Weldon Park. Hyrum and Mary Ellen Coleman went and report that there were 90 in attendance. Mary Ellen only has two sisters left now and they were both there. Nora Youngdale, Magna and Maude Spencer who now lives with her daughter, Ruth Haun in Lindon. Grace Brown has been in town spending some time with her sister and brother-in-law, Florence and Melvin Alvey. Our condo-lences to them; they recently lost a sister who lived in St. George. (Grace lives in Jackson, Calif.) Charlie and Viva Hill, North Salt Lake, visited last week with their sister, Sheila Woolley. The three of them enjoyed eating and visiting at the senior citizen center on Wednesday and Thursday evenings. eve-nings. Many relatives and friends were in town last week for the funeral services of Gail Bailey. McKay and Rose Bailey had their kids, Stuart and Karma Bailey, Fillmore; Natalie Na-talie and Jerry Brian, Mesa, Ariz, and Alan and Sarah Bailey, Phoenix, Phoe-nix, Ariz. Elaine Bailey Shurtz Knox was here with her new husband Dean Knox. They live in Alaska in the summer and Mesa during the winter. win-ter. They stayed at the home of Jerry and Sheree Roundy, along with Ken and Roma Clark and John Houston, all of Salt Lake City. John is the son of Wanda Bailey Houston. Elaine's daughters, Christina Shurtz and Margo and her husband Mike Wood were also in town. Christina and Margo are also the daughters of Dean Shurtz, Boulder. Boul-der. Visiting at the home of Bill and Dawn Griffin were Bob and Sandra Porter, their children Teresa and Daryl LeSueur, Brent Porter and Travis and Emily Porter all of the Mesa, Ariz. area. Coming from Las Vegas, Nevada Ne-vada were Terrill and Colleen Bailey and their children Scott and Chris Bailey; Teri and Adrian Clark and Joanie Bailey. They came for the day then went back to their cabin at Panguitch Lake that evening. Gloria and McKay Winkel of the Provo-Orem area were here with their family, including the married ones, Warren and Kristen Winkel, Marie and Matt Call, and Emily and Landon Sessions. They stayed at their cabin on Boulder Mountain at night. Boyd Griffin and daughter, Bridie, came to be with Bill and Dawn Griffin for the day and returned re-turned to their home in Cleveland that evening. Crockett and Sharon Dumas, Vadito, N.M., were in town for a few days visiting friends and marking mark-ing trails for the annual En-durance Ride which is taking place this week. Rudger and Valora Shurtz, Hurricane, Hur-ricane, visited friends and relatives here last week. Guess no matter how long you stay away, the old home town keeps calling you back! Congratulations to Ivan and Lucille Lu-cille Mclnelly Davenport on their 50th wedding anniversary. Jason and Dawn Griffin, Cedar City, visited their parents Lynn and . Judy Griffin and Marion and Peggy Spencer. Jody and Gary Gledhill were at the home of Gary's parents, Dean and Janis Gledhill. They live in Ivins and brought Jody's sister Paige Danklef from Cedar City who visited with her grand-parents, Norman and Ardis Christensen. Haws and Janet Porter went to Mesa, Ariz., to see Bob and Sandra Porter and to watch Brigham Young University play football. Lavern and Mary Griffin went to Payson for doctors' appointments and stayed with daughter Jolyn Peterson Pe-terson for a week. They report that Jolyn and family are doing well. The Starns and Fon Mecham family received word that Luella Roundy, wife of Quinn Roundy is having health problems and is hospitalized hos-pitalized in Phoenix, Ariz. Darrell Alvey came from Arizona Ari-zona to see his mother Melba and Arlis Brooks, the Arden Taylors and other family members and friends. He was between seasons at the race track in Prescott and Phoenix. He earned "Trainer of the Year" title in Prescott again this summer. With 15 horses he had 28 wins to his credit. Congratulations to him and the horses. J. C. and Eva Haws are here for a few days. They say Ushur and Lapriel Spencer may soon be coming com-ing home for a while. We are glad they are doing that much better. Teresa Spencer has a new baby daughter, Lacey Lynn. She was born in St. George and has a 5-year-old brother at home. Julie Ford is the proud grandmother. Trina Jepsen, Boulder, is a new substitute teacher at the elementary school. We have a new city police-man. He is young and single and his name is Sam Lyman from Cedar City. Hopefully he will want to stay for a while. Mel Richins was in the hospital at Panguitch for a few days, with pneumonia. He is home and doing better. Clea Woolsey went to Provo for more treatment on her bad leg, which wouldn't heal. They ended up doing a skin graft on it and she is home again. She will be on a walker for a few days. One day last week, while Ty Venuti was working in the yard, he was surprised to hear two four-wheelers four-wheelers roaring up the street, on skyline road. A closer look revealed re-vealed that it was none other than his step-grandfather, Dudley Spencer and James Mclnelly racing. As they got to the top of the hill, by Nellie Bailey's, Dudley let up on the gas and Ty swears that James popped a wheeley before continuing on up the street! Ty stood there with his mcuth open and shouted "Mom, did you see that?" Those two may be grounded this week! |
