Show Panguitch Wrestlers Take First at Piute Holiday Tournament JUNCTION Just prior to the Christmas holiday break Panguitch High School wrestlers brought home a significant win from the Piute Holiday Wrestling Tournament Tourna-ment held in Junction Dec. 18. The competition boasted nine teams, ranging from 1A to 3A status, from across the southern end of the state. Teams included from Garfield County were Panguitch and Escalante High School Varsity teams and junior varsity also from Panguitch, Piute, Milford and Wayne, all 1A schools. Parowan and Kanab high schools represented 2A venues and Delta was the sole 3A team. Panguitch High School's own Nathan Cooper, a senior this year competing at 145 lbs., took home the Most Valuable Player plaque and a first place from the event. Besides PHS taking first place, second place went to Delta High School and third place went to Wayne High School. Other wins for PHS wrestlers "included Roy Seals, 103 lbs., 3rd place; Zach Owens, 103 lbs., 4th; Lonnie Milgate, 1 12 lbs., 3rd; Ozro Hepworth, 119 lbs., 2nd; Stuart Mitchell, 119 lbs., 4th; Mike Wilson, Wil-son, 125 lbs., 2nd; Cache Miller, 130 lbs., 4th and Nate Houston, 135 lbs., 4th. Other winners included Joe Noyes, 152 lbs., 2nd; Brett Dalton, 160 lbs., 4th; Bryon Hathcock, 171 lbs., 1st; Byron Howard, 189 lbs., 2nd;Garnett Owens, 189 lbs., 4th; Adam Soper, 215 lbs., 1st and Andrew An-drew Reddan, heavyweight, 1st. Proud manager of the PHS wrestling team is Shane Smith with coaches Frank Houston, Barry Smith and Jeff Cradtree. |
