Show Tropic News By Lynn Munson 679-8627 . Florene Sudweeks and Minnie, Nielsen went to a Christmas party given by their dear friend, Edna Clarke of Panguitch for a very enjoyable time. Gloria Hayden and Anna Marie Johnson should be commended for the wonderful service they give to the Care Center residents in Panguitch. They take fresh fruit over at least every week and visit and cheer up both the residents and staff. They were also hostesses for the LDS Family Home Evening group on Monday. It was the annual Christmas party and besides a wonderful meal, everyone opened presents and enjoyed their time together. Berdell and Carina Barton spent a week at the St. George LDS temple. Later their out-of-town children, Lorraine Marshall, Connie Heap and Jared Barton were here for Harvey Mecham's funeral. Many other Tropic residents also had family members home for the same reason. Margaret Mecham and daughter, Margie Mecham were in Cedar City last Sunday to attend church with daughter and sister Garnet Barton. The funeral for Rachel Ahlstrom Jolley was held last Wednesday and many family and friends attended. Rachel's close friends Carma Barton and Mary Ott recalled fond memories as did son, Doug and stepdaughter, Helen Smith. Helen and husband, Dar Smith, had just returned from their LDS mission in New Zealand. Rachel herself had selected some songs that were beautifully performed in her memory. Overnight visitors with Larvin and Eva Pollock were grandson, Jayson Reed of Mesa, Ariz., and girl friend, Laura Kunz of Chandler, Ariz. Jayson is a son of Maureen Reed. Sara Littlefield had a nice visit with son, Steven Littlefield at the Garfield Memorial Extended Care Center. Steve stayed overnight at Sarah's house before returning home to his family in Washington. Steve said the house is very lonely without Sara. The rest of the neighborhood feels the same way. Lynn Munson took Minnie Nielsen to Panguitch for a doctors appointment and visited friends in the Garfield Memorial Care Center. Everyone seemed to be doing we1 and were quite cheerful. Mate and Ruth Baugh were in St. George with daughter, Kelly and husband, Birch Moore and their five children. Son, Justin Baugh joined them all from Mesquite, Nev. They returned home to spend Christmas with Dallin and Katherine Baugh and their three children from Orem. Kenneth Alvey of Las Vegas, Nev., was here last week to visit his parents, Royal and Rella Alvey and other family members. Kenneth took nephew, Ryan Alvey to a basketball game at Bryce Valley High School and they both had a great time. Last Sunday, Afton and DelRae Pollock had their annual Christmas party at their home. All their children and their families were there, a total of 32 attending. It is great to hear that Afton is doing well. Kent and Betty Wintch celebrated cele-brated their 57th wedding anniversary anniver-sary on Dec. 23. Their son, Rhett, wife, Lisa and four children of Panaca, Nev., stayed overnight to enjoy the celebration. Congratulations Congratula-tions Kent and Betty! Also married on Dec. 23 were Berdell and Carma Barton and they celebrated their 44th anniversary with all their children home. Several of their grandchildren spent Christmas day with them as did Carma's sister, Teora Willis of Henrieville. Dec. 23rd was also a special day for the Harris family. Ron and Susan's boy, Trevan, enjoyed his first birthday with a big party. Attending were grandparents Ed and Nancy Littlefield and Mondell and Florence Syrett and all their children. Syrett daughter, Sydney, is home for the holidays from school in Phoenix. The entire family gathered again on Christmas Eve for the family dinner. The street in front of the Syrett home looked like a large used truck lot. Lowell and Margaret Mecham spent Christmas with Margaret's mother, Melva Redford in West Valley. Santa Claus was at the fire house the afternoon of Dec. 24. Lots of children visited him to have their pictures taken and tell Santa of any last minute Christmas wishes. The jolly ole elf showed up for the LDS Primary Christmas program held at the Bryce Valley auditorium. He passed out candy before taking off to deliver presents all over the world. Did he stop at your house? Bob Harmon and family had his son, David Harmon and family of Florida and daughter Shelly Harmon and three-year-old son of Las Vegas spend Christmas with them. Nancy Twitchell, daughter, Becca Bales, son, Adam Bales and grandson, Brennen Bales traveled to San Diego over Christmas to spend the holiday with Nancy's father and wife, Chuck and Nancy Underwood of Pacific Beach. Also driving and flying in were sisters Chris and husband, Pete Wauls of Fairfax, Va., and Kathy and husband, Darryl Gomez of Escondido, Calif. Lots of nieces and nephews joined the mix with a total of 23 for Christmas dinner. This was the first time the sisters had been together in six years so lots of catching up. Pete and Keela Mangum had their children home for their annual Christmas Eve dinner. Shawn and Crystal Mortenson, their three boys, Shawn's parents, Lyle and Nancy Mortenson, and Shawn's brother, Kelly and son, AJ Mortenson Morten-son of Beaver. Also on hand were Tawn and Cami Mangum and their three children and Laycee Mangum and boyfriend Ryan Johnson of Cedar City. On Christmas Day Pete and Keela and Laycee and Ryan left for Phoenix for a week in the sun and watching their horses race. Hope everyone enjoyed a Christmas that was merry and bright and that you will carry your love of our Savior Jesus Christ in your heart into the new year, century and millennium. Happy New Year to all. |
