Show Mustangs Win In Overtime By John Yardley The Bryce Valley Mustangs continued their late season surge with a dramatic 72-70 overtime victory Friday night at Milford. The Mustangs led 34-24 at the half and played pretty much even in the third, but the Tigers roared back in the final quarter to force' overtime at 62-62. BV outscored the Tigers 10-8 in a thriller overtime. Waylon Brinkerhoff exploded for 28 points, including four three-pointers three-pointers to lead the Mustangs. Brandon Johnson had a solid game with 14 and Tim Leach scored 11. Escalante played one of their better games of the season against Enterprise, but went ice cold from the free throw line, making only 16 of 27 in a game that may as well been a victory for the Moquis. Instead, they lost 59-54. Dusty Barnson pumped in 15, including a pair of threes and Garrett Cottam had 14 for the Moquis. Phillip Nelson chipped in with 9 and Ryan Cottam hit for 7. Enterprise led 28-27 28-27 at the half in a game that was close all the way. i Panguitch could find no offense against the high flying Wayne Badgers, losing 61-35. Panguitch held a 15-14 lead in the second quarter before everything went south. The next time PHS scored, it was 30-17 and it got worse. A big strong team like Wayne was held in the fifties until the final minute, so the defense was fine, but the Bobcats couldn't "throw it in the ocean" as they say. Jeremy Withers scored 14, Dameon Julander 9 and Justin Miller 8 in the Bobcats worse offensive of-fensive game of the year. This week Panguitch travels to Escalante in a game to be heard on radio KMXU. Bryce Valley plays Valley at Tropic. Next week we will outline the possible Round Robin pairings. The PHS girls begin their tournament tour-nament at Delta this week in the 1 A state championships. Valley is favored fa-vored to win this year, after a heartbreaking heart-breaking loss in overtime last year to Enterprise. You may recall in the final last season, Valley led by 10 with less than a minute to play and lost |
