Show Wildlife Resources Announces 1996 Big Game Hunt Recommendations By Norman McKee DWR Wildlife Biologist The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources recommendations for the 1996 big game hunts have been made. Meetings to receive public comment on the recommendation are also announced by the Southern Region Wildlife Advisory Council. The public meetings in the Southern Region area are set for Feb. 20 in Hurricane at 7 p.m. at the Fine Arts Center, 635 S. 100 W. and Feb. 21 in Fillmore at 7 p.m. at the Millard High School Auditorium, Audi-torium, 35 N. 200 W. Anyone interested in commenting comment-ing on the proposed hunting strategy, strat-egy, permit numbers, season dates, etc. is encouraged to attend one of the two meetings. Recommendations Recommen-dations for each hunt are made on several criteria including, but not limited to, carrying capacity of the range, other land uses, traditional expectations of harvest on the unit, agricultural depredation control, consultation with other land management man-agement agencies, political policy decisions with regard to species, etc. and the effect of hunting activ- , ities on local or state economies. The 1995 Board of Big Game Control previously set general season sea-son dates for the following: General Archery Deer 817-96; General Season Deer 1019-1027; General Muzzleloader Deer 1030-117; General Archery Elk 829-913 and General Season Elk 109-1017. The 97,000 Deer Hunter Cap utilizing regions will also remain in effect for 1996, as well as a 20,000 cap on Spike Bull Elk permits and a 16,000 cap on Any Bull Elk permits. The DWR recommendations for those big game units in and around Garfield County within the Southern Region: (Resident is noted by R, Nonresident by NR). DEER - Mt Dutton, Kaiparowits, Beaver Mtn., Boulder Mtn., Panguitch Lake and Zion Units -General Seasons. In addition, the Boulder Mtn. Unit is recommended recom-mended for 25 High Country Buck Permits 92-927, and the Panguitch Valley is recommended for 25 Antlerless Permits 119-1124. 119-1124.
