Show By Marlene Haws 826-4859 Clorene Vidrine just returned from a visit with her sons in Riv-erton Riv-erton and Mountain Green. Greg Vidrine and son, Nathan, came to Escalante and got Clorene and Betty Alvey before Thanksgiving. Clo-rene's Clo-rene's family spent Thanksgiving at the home of Marty and Debbie Vidrine in Riverton, then later she went to Mountain Green to stay a few days with Greg's family. Granddaughter Jennifer and husband, Nate Hadley brought Clorene home. Betty Alvey spent the holiday with her children, the families of Jay and Linda Stokes who live on - the same street in Riverton as Marty Vidrine and also with Greg and Irene Tait of South Jordan. She came back to Cedar City with her grandson, Kerry Tait, who goes to school there. Frank Alvey picked her up and brought her back home. Leslie Venuti took her daughters with her on a trip to Redlands, Calif.. back to her old "home country." They visited with Tony and Marilyn Larsen while they were there and attended a wedding reception for their daughter also. Marilyn Jackson is touring the country with her husband, Tom. He drives truck all over the United States so she is having a ball seeing all the country. Sherrill and Pat Haws of West Jordan were in town for a couple of days. They came for the funeral of Idona Haws in Boulder, but stayed in Escalante a couple of nights and visited with the family of Yukon Norman and other friends and relatives. rela-tives. Danny Spencer and Clem Griffin lucked out and got an elk during their hunting expedition last week. That was the fun part. Then the work began taking care of it! Ryan Cottam just got started on his LDS mission when he got sick. His missionary companion took him to the hospital where he had to have his appendix removed. His parents, Brent and Patrice Cottam and family were able to talk to him and he will stay in the mission home in Toronto, Canada until he is feeling better. Judy Brooks spent the weekend in Kanab with her parents Melvin and Marjorie Costanzo. Pratt and Areola Gates went to Salt Lake City for the funeral of Keith Shanley, who is the husband of Pratt's sister, Viola. Besides being there for Viola, they were able to visit with the families of Pratt's brother, Leone Gates, (See ESCALANTE on page 3-A) ESCALANTE From Page 2-A Tooele and his sister, Lois Carlton, Ogden. Carol Sorensen flew up from St. George to join them and they stayed with their son, Darren, in his new home in Salt Lake City overnight. Carolyn and Vergean Porter went to Richfield where they met with Jim and Janet Spencer at the home of Doug and Marie Loosle. They visited for a couple of hours then they all went out to eat. Their sister, Venice and husband, Tal-mage Tal-mage Taylor of Sandy and brother, J.C. Spencer and wife, Opal of Mapleton were supposed to join them but said there was too much snow. Fourteen inches of snow at Venice's house, although they did start out but only got to the Point of the Mountain before turning back. Carolyn and Vergean went on to Provo where they met their son, Sloan Porter of Midway. They visited and did some shopping and came back home. Rose Caldwell had a knee replacement re-placement last week, but you would never know it. It hasn't slowed her down much. Although I am sure she is experiencing some discomfort, discom-fort, she hasn't let it keep her down. Both LDS Ward Relief Societies has their annual Christmas Social last Wednesday evening. Spouses were invited, good food served, Christmas songs were sung and the large crowd that attended had an enjoyable time. LaRue Spencer spent some time in the hospital last week, but is ' home and doing better. The Escalante Camp of the Daughters of. Utah Pioneers held their monthly meeting and Christmas Christ-mas Social last Thursday night at the Senior Citizen Center. A lovely meal was served before the meeting. The lesson was given by Marlene Haws on "Pioneer Women Musicians." Christmas songs were sung, gifts were exchanged and a good time was had by all. The combined LDS Ward Choir is practicing for the annual Christmas Christ-mas Cantata which will be presented pre-sented on Dec. 19 at 7 p.m. at the LDS Stake Center. Put that on your calendar and try to attend. |
