Show , . . ... ,:.,, .: ' v - - i. I . f i Silas Munson It's 95 Years For Silas Munson Tropic's oldest resident, Silas Hubert Munson, will celebrate his 95th birthday on Sunday, Dec. 19. He was born in Circle ville in 1904. He has lived through every decade of the 20th century and will now help to usher in the 21st century. cen-tury. Si's family moved to Tropic in 1919 and it was there he met the lovely girl who would become his wife. He and Sarah Irene Johnson were married Aug. 28, 1928 and spent 68 wonderful years together. Irene died Feb. 28, 1997. Si and Irene lived in Tropic and in McGill, Nev., before moving to Los Angeles in the 1920's. There he worked at the Ford Motor Company until WWII started, then he and his father in the shipyards at Long Beach, Calif. In 1947, after the war ended, Si moved his family back to Tropic to raise cattle and operate an dairy farm. He continued to milk cows until he was in his late 70's. Until this year, he still cut and hauled wood by himself. For more than 20 years he played drums in "Jimmy's Orchestra," Or-chestra," named for his brother James Munson who played saxophone. saxo-phone. Elva Clarke was the pianist and George Thompson played the trumpet. Herman Pollock played guitar and sang as they traveled' all over the county for many years. The Munsons had two sons and a daughter, Donald (Dixie) Munson, Salt Lake City; Alan Munson and Verlyn "Lynn" Munson, both Tropic. Trop-ic. He has nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and five great- . . great-grandchildren. Si says he wants to thanks all of his many friends and neighbors and his family for the love and joy they have brought into his long life. |
