Show Panguitch Girls Win Kanab Classic, Escalante Girls Take Third Place By John Yardley Behind an MVP performance by junior Maxi Miller and a great supporting sup-porting cast, Coach Curtis Barney and assistant Genny Poll's Lady Bobcats won the Second Annual Girls Kanab Classic over the home team Kanab Cowgirls, 51-33. Miller, who was the leading scorer the first night against Mon-ticello Mon-ticello with 16, was joined on the all-tournament team by senior Lisa Duff and Camille Christensen, also a junior. Brittany Sandefer of Escalante Esca-lante was also an all-tourncy selection selec-tion as she led her team to a third place come from behind finish over Monticello. In the opening game with the Buckaroos, Lacee Leached hit for 10 and Duff scored 8 in an easy 59-38 win for Panguitch High School. Escalante lost a close one 40-38 to Kanab in the opening game as Sandefer poured in 20 and Becky Crawford hit for nine to lead Angle Alvey's team. Saturday, Panguitch got out to an early first quarter lead and were up 27-16 at the half. After a little . run by Kanab, the Bobcats extended to 40-26 after three and put it away. Christensen bombed for 20, Shelly Hatch hit some key outside shots and finished with 9, while Duff pitched in with eight. |
