Show Escalante Center Sets Community Lecture Series ESCALANTE The Escalante Center announced this week a series of lectures beginning Dec. 16, focusing on issues of community self sufficiency. These lectures will present issues related to the ideal and practice of community self sufficiency in the U.S. with specific emphasis on Utah, its pioneer heritage and skills which enabled the establishment of Escalante in an isolated and often hostile environment. The lectures will also explore current issues such as Y2K preparedness and combating community fragmentation and community rebuilding. re-building. Bennett and Donald Cobb with the Utah State Office of Comprehensive Emergency Management. Jan. 22 - People on the Edge: History of People Surviving in Garfield County. Feb. 1 1 - Stories From Our Senior Escalante Residents. Mar. 17 - Medicinal Plants Used by Utah Pioneers. Apr. 14 - Community ' Economic Revitalization for Self Sufficiency. Apr. 28 - The Escalante Center: A Means to Escalante Self Sufficiency. All events will be held in the Escalante Community Center (except Jan. 22 which will be announced later) from 7 until 9:30 p.m. and are open to the public.
