Show firgq Obituaries Elise Porter Ott ESCALANTETROPIC Martha Elise Thompson Porter Ott, 84, of Escalante and Tropic, Utah died Feb. 21, 1996 in Panguitch, Utah. She was born Sept. 11, 1911, in Escalante to James R. and Ellen Elise Peterson Thompson. She married Preston Porter Feb. 17, 1927 in Boulder, Utah. The marriage was solemnized in the St. George LDS Temple in March of 1956. He preceded her in death, Sept. 6, 1956. She married Norm Ott, May 9, 1959 in Las Vegas, Nev. They were later divorced. Elise worked at Ruby's Inn and at the Pine's as a cook and cashier for over 40 years. She is survived by five daughters and one son, Clea Woolsey, Escalante; Betty P. Alvey, Escalante; Richard and Virginia Porter, Woods Cross; Rosa Lie and Jerry Coleman, Kanab; Ann Bamedt, Kanab and Kathleen and Steve Goulding, Henrieville. Also a son-in-law, Max Porter, Escalante; 26 grandchildren, 70 great-grandchildren; one brother and two sisters, Berdell Thompson, Salt Lake City; Lafetta Sherman, California and Edna Haycock, Lehi. She was preceded in death by husband, Preston; a son, Denny Arnold Porter; a daughter, Shirley Porter; two grandchildren, Lorie and Pauline; parents; one brother, Melvin; two sisters, Mertyle and Hilda and two sons-in-law, Vardon Woolsey and Loyd Alvey. Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 24, 1996 at the Escalante LDS First Ward Chapel, with Bishop Marc McLemore officiating. Prelude and postlude music was provided by Susan Wilson with Darrin Coleman, a grandson, giving the family prayer prior to opening the service. A great-granddaughter, Brandy Woods gave the invocation followed by a musical selection, "Somewhere My Love" sung by Kenneth Goulding, Jr. A grandson, Dennis Porter spoke, followed by a Martha Elise Porter Ott tribute by granddaughters Sheila Orton and Sandy Fox. A musical selection, "Hair of Silver, Hair of Gold" was performed by Deon Alvey and Geraldine Listen. Stan Mecham spoke, followed by remarks from Bishop Marc McLemore. A musical selection, "Green, Green, Grass of Home" was sung by a grandson, Max Porter, Jr. Grandson Preston Woolsey provided the benediction. Pallbearers were Layne Woolsey, Steven Alvey, Max Porter, Jr., Robert Woolsey, Wade Coleman, Shane Tullis, Troy Goulding and Berdell Thompson. Honorary pallbearers were Preston Woolsey, Dennis Porter, Sam Alvey, Darrin Coleman, Kevin Tullis, Clint Barnedt and Kipp Porter. Compassionate services were provided by the sisters of the Escalante 1st Ward Relief Society Sisters. Burial was in the Escalante Cemetery with son-in-law, Max Porter providing the dedication of the grave, under the direction of Neal S. Magleby & Sons Mortuary, Richfield. |
