Show BoulderlEscalante Fund Raisers Are Successful BOULDER - Joint fund raising efforts in Boulder and Escalante have yielded moneys for the Garfield Gar-field Memorial Hospital Foundation and the area's Emergency Response Squad of Emergency Medical Technicians Tech-nicians (EMT's). On Monday, Ada Cox, Boulder, and Rolain Alvey, Escalante, presented pre-sented $943 to the Garfield Memorial Mem-orial Hospital Foundation Board at their board meeting in Panguitch. The funds represented the support of eastern county residents for the medical services provided by the hospital and its clinics. The money was raised through donations for tickets for quilts created by local skilled quilters. The announcement of the winners was made at the Pioneer Day Rodeo in Escalante where daytime festivities were held. In Boulder, Helen Lyman was the happy winner of a delicate baby quilt hand-painted by Laura Fischer and quilted by Neta Poulson, Veda Behunin, Judi Davis, Renon Peterson, Peter-son, Betty Fischer, Naomi Brems, and Gladys LeFevre, all residents of Boulder. Two large quilts were made by the Relief Society ladies of the 1st and 2nd Escalante LDS Wards. Happy winners of those quilts were Jennifer Geerlings of Boulder and Cal Porter of Escalante. The annual Pioneer Day Dance was held in Boulder where the do- (See FUNDRAISER on page 6-A) I, L FUNDRAISER From Front Page nated talents of the Button Box Accordion Band of Arizona provided music for dancing for exuberant polka and swing fans. Additional fund raising efforts are being directed at providing pagers for Boulder's new EMT's. Currently, the only communication link to the county from Boulder is the one radio of Deputy Sheriff Ray Gardner. Ladies from Boulder donated baked goods to be sold at the dance and Keith Carter of Escalante served as the pie auctioneer. Carolyn Fuller, a teacher from California and a longtime fan of Southern Utah, donated materials for booths for the children's carnival. Betsey Fullmer and Stacy Davis made more than a hundred balloon critters. D'Nell Eastman did face painting and Jessie Lyman supervised super-vised the fishpond. The combination combina-tion of activities raised $363 toward the purchase of pagers. The Boulder EMT's are continuing contin-uing their fund raising efforts by generating an exclusive Boulder-Escalante Boulder-Escalante telephone directory with large print easy-to-read and quick-to-find local telephone numbers. The telephone book is on sale for $3 at Hills & Hollows in Boulder and at Rolain's Beauty Shop in Escalante. Copies are also available from Stacy Davis at 435-689-0950 or Ada Cox at 435-335-7313, |
