Show Second Protest Set For Salt Lake City On July 10 Protestors proclaiming "Access For All, Not Wilderness For Some" will invade Salt Lake City on Saturday, July 10 to personally announce to Governor Mike Leavitt at 2 p.m. at the State Capitol their opposition to the 9.1 million acres of wilderness proposed in Secretary Bruce Babbitt's Re-inventory of Utahs public lands. A convoy of vehicles from all over the state will converge on Utah's capital city at 1 p.m., arriving in counties all over Utah: Garfield, Kane, San Juan, Piute, Wayne, Washington, Beaver, Sevier, Uintah, and others, and groups from Idaho, Wyoming and Colorado. The event is sponsored by the Utah Chapters of People for the USA, a grass roots organization focusing on private property rights, natural resources productions, produc-tions, land access, global climate change and other member-driven issues. Locally, the caravan, which will meet the convoy from Kanab in Panguitch at 7:15 a.m., is being organized by Jeanne Harshman of Boulder (435-335-7348) and Rick Crawford of Escalante (435 -826-4908.) All Garfield County residents resi-dents are urged to join the caravan. Final details and the route of travel will be published in the July 8 issue of the Garfield County News. |
