Bryce Valley Defeats Panguitch; Bobcats Take The Thunderbirds to knock off league-leading Piute 69-55 on Saturday night. BV, meanwhile, played a very tough road-game against Enterprise and lost 79-60, for a weekend split. The Escalante Moquis lost to Valley in a discouraging game 68-52 68-52 and to Wayne 81-60. The PHS girls lost to a good Enterprise team and to Lincoln County. Bryce Valley got a total team effort in defeating the streaking Bobcats. The Brinkerhoff boys, Clint and Waylon, provided the firepower, but Coach Greg Hughes got some fine performance from other players as well. Brandon Johnson took the ball to the hoop with authority and scored 13. Lance Syretl made a couple of nifty moves as well as a couple of nice blocks and finished with nine. Clint and Waylon finished fin-ished with 22 and 19 respectively, with each hitting a big three down the stretch and Clint making two nice lay-ins. Fine guard play from Lance and Layne Mathews also contributed to the win. Panguitch made it close in the end and had two chances to tie it with a three-pointer, three-pointer, but the last one fell just off at the buzzer. Jeremy Withers hit for 19, Tyler Bamey for 12, and Gaylen Dalton 9 for Panguitch. Enterprise took a 51-30 half-time half-time lead of BV Saturday and it was just too much to overcome for the Mustangs. Waylon tanked 17, Clint 16, and Lance Syrett 9 in the loss. It is not easy to win at Enterprise. Enter-prise. The win against Panguitch was appreciated by Bryce fans in perhaps their best game in the last few years. Panguitch was a little slow off the mark, allowing Piute, with only one league loss, to lead 15-10 after one and 34-29 at the half. However, the Bobcats roared back to take a 49-43 lead after three and poured it on with a fine spread- scoring offense in the final period. Jeremy Withers was smooth once again, scoring 23, and Tyler Bamey hit eight field goals in the paint for 16, while Gaylen Dalton scored 10. But it was fine team play from Justin Miller, John Hulet, Matt (See Bryce Valley Beats Panguitch; Bobcats Beat Piute On Page 3A) BV Beats Panguitch; Bobcats Beat Piute From Page 1 Tebbs, Henry James and others that contributed big to this team victory. vic-tory. Panguitch executed an excellent excel-lent game plan in the second half. The PHS cheerleaders have shown a great deal of team spirit the past few games and have helped their team to a couple of big wins at Enterprise and against Piute. Escalante saw a 29-22 half-time lead evaporate as they scored only five in the third period in losing at Valley 68-52. There was balance in scoring for the Moquis, with Philip Nelson notching 12, Ryan Cottam 1 1 , and Garrett Cottam and Dusty Bamson 10 each. The third quarter killed Escalante. Saturday Garrett pumped in 26, Dusty 11 and Ryan 10 in the battle at Wayne where the Badgers just took off and left the Escalante boys. The badgers have so much firepower. fire-power. The old inversion rule applied as Wayne led 42-24 at the half and won 81-60. The PHS girls could not stop the very good Enterprise Wolves who rank as one of the best teams in 1A. Jenny Poll scored 19 and Amanda Talbot 13 for the Panguitch Pan-guitch team. On Friday, the girls fell just short against Lincoln County in an afternoon game. Jenny Poll hit for 19 once again. The girls have an important game with Wayne. A win would assure them a spot in the 1A tournament tour-nament next month in Delta. |
