Sunny April skies and warmer temperatures tem-peratures are a welcome relief to all outdoor enthusiasts. There were a number of hikers who got stranded on the muddy roads off the Bun-trail. Bun-trail. Old timers cannot remember a wetter March...and where were those winds? Rose and McKay Bailey recently went to Salt Lake City to the All-Star All-Star Tournament at Hill Crest High School. Their son, Stewart Bailey, who coaches at Millard High School in Fillmore, had two team members playing on the girls basketball bas-ketball team. Stewart was awarded "Coach of the Year" for high school girls basketball for his district. Rose reports they had a very enjoyable enjoy-able visit with the family. A pot luck farewell luncheon will be held for Jim and Charlotte Spears, Sunday April 12 at noon. The located is yet to be announced but contact Pastor Jim Daggit for further details at 896-4915. Jim and Charlotte came here to retire a number of years ago and have spent a lot of time and energy renovating a lovely old two-story brick home. Sharol Bernardo looks forward to reaping the benefit of their expertise when she takes ownership in May. Gene and Thais Griffin enjoyed a visit from daughter Stephanie, home from college in Cedar City. Thais reports that daughter Melanie now works at a wallpaper warehouse ware-house in Murray and is happy to be using her interior decorating training. train-ing. An audience of some 50 people recently enjoyed the 6th grade's rendition ren-dition of the "Sword and the Stone." Teacher Kay Miller was very proud of the students' efforts. Lisa Leibenguth was home from Utah Valley Community College Technical School in Orem for spring break. Twyla Mclnelly enjoyed a visit from son Chad from Farmington, who brought his son to do some fishing. Barbara Imlay tells of a fine visit with Glen and Colleen Imlay, Evanston, Wyo. here to see brother Francis. The Escalante Action Team for Rural Development will beTeceiv-ing beTeceiv-ing a $15,000 grant through the U.S. Forest Service to be used to assist the team in writing grant proposals. The next meeting will be April 21 at 6 p.m. at the city hall. Project proposals will be presented. pre-sented. Beth Christensen, Escalante Elementary School Principal reports re-ports that six students won an essay contest on "Being Drug Free" and attended a Drug Free Youth Confer-ence Confer-ence in Salt Lake City. Teacher Kay Miller and Sharon Dale Marsh escorted 6th grader Jenny Miller (this was her second year); 4th grader Linda Carter and 5th graders 1 troy Dale Lyman, Jessie Griffin, Doug Olsen and Christy Townsend. Many celebrities were there and some of the students got to see Jazz player Mark Eaton. Max Porter was surprised by a visit from his grandson and wife, James and Anka Crump, Salt Lake City. He says "it's amazing how they grow." |
