Show Escalante Couple To Note 60th Date Mr. and Mrs. Dee Haws ESCALANTE Mr. and Mrs. Dee Haws will be honored on their 60th wedding anniversary with an open house. They will greet friends and family Sunday, Feb. 17 from 3 until 5 p.m. at the Escalante High School lunch room. The family has requested no gifts, please. They were married Feb. 18, 1925 at Escalante and their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June' 11, 1925. Mr. Haws was born Dec. 13, 1903 at Boulder to Frank and Wilhelmina Smith Haws. He attended school in Boulder and Escalante. He served a two-year LDS mission in the North Western States mission. He served as a counselor in the bishopric and in the stake presidency of the LDS church for 11 years. He is a retired rancher, having had both sheep and cattle and is still active in the race horse business. His wife, Elda was born Nov, 12, 1904 at Escalante to Peter Orrin and Johanna Roundy Barker. She attended school in Escalante. She and her husband were among the first graduates of Escalante High School. She has always been active in the LDS church, serving as primary stake president for five years, Relief Society president for five years and as MIA president on two different occasions. She is also a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers where she served as captain two different times. The Haws are parents of two sons and. three daughters: Klyn Haws,. Escalante; Donald Haws, Killeen;-Texas; Mrs. Freland (Phyllis) Alvey, Escalante; Mrs. Ray (Lois) Barney, Kaysville; and Mrs. Melvin (Jean) Dutton, Ephraim. They also parented Mrs. Haws' two nephews, Gerald Haycock, Sandy and Larry Haycock (deceased) until their graduation from Escalante Hifh School. |
