Show Tropic Girl Nominated For Two Scholarships TROPIC - Crystal Mangum, a sophomore this fall at Bryce Valley High School was nominated as a National English Merit award winner qualifying her for application for scholarships through the United States Achievement Academy. She was recommended to the Academy by her English teacher, Todd Stubbs. Miss Mangum, 14, was also nominated as a United States National Mathematics award winner which also qualifies her to apply for special scholarships. The English honors go to less than five percent of English students and the math honors to fewer than one-half of one percent of all math students. She was nominated to the USNMA by her math teacher, John Reese. Her name and personal biography will appear in both the NEMA and the USNMA bipgraphies published annually. Miss Mangum will serve as head junior varsity cheerleader at Bryce Valley this year. She enjoys athletics and is an accomplished pianist. working as a guide for trail rides at Bryce Canyon National Park and particularly enjoyed meeting visitors to the 'area from alftove the- A Miss Crystal Mangum world. During the summer, she also attended "Especially for Youth" at Brigham Young University where she mingled with other teenagers, ages 14 to 18, from many states and foreign countries. She also attended cheerleader Camp at Utah State University at Logan during her summer vacation. |
