Show U t AT 11 OF 0 L U F F ar T ER S ST succumbed to heart trouble wednesday night his is life devoted to church and service to the public A life of faithful devotion to church and public service came to a peaceful end in the death wednesday night ot of our townsman oluff petersen Pc mr petersen died at his home corner forest and first west streets at 0 clock at the age of 65 years th break in his usual good health occur red last june when he be fell in a swoon on oa the street one day and was taken to his home by friends ile he was up and around again until christmas day when he took to his bed upon the advice of his physician he gradually grew weaker until the end came wednesday ted evening the direct cause of 0 his death being heart trouble mr petersen was born in denmark november 20 1859 he came to utah in 1870 with his parents and brother peter petersen the family settling in brigham city ile he has resided here since that time ills his first public service was at the local post office where in ill tile gos he became associated with postmaster gillispie as an assistant later he became postmaster ot of brigham city a position lie he tilled filled for a number of years in 1892 94 he was city recorder of brigham city at the time john D peters was mayor ile he also served as city treasurer he was associated with the dank bank of 0 brigham city in the early nineties nin ties at the time john Y rich was president he was one of 0 the incorporators of 0 the first national bank here in 1901 and has been associated with that institution up until the time ot of his death for many years he was the brigham correspondent to the deseret news and tor for his service received a copy ot of the daily paper which he be turned over to the public library lor for the benefit ot of its patrons ile he married miss rozilla knudson daughter of 0 the late william william and amelia knudson of this city june 23 1892 and their time has been devoted extensively to church work mr petersen was called on two different occasions to labor 1 in the logan temple and among other duties tilled filled the position of recorder at the temple ile he was ward clerk of 0 the third ward of 0 this city eleven years stake mutual counselor and clerk tor for twenty years senior president of the quorum of 0 seventy for many years and in this capacity took great interest in the members of the quorum while they were in the mission field and in the welfare of their wives and families at home ile he was especially interested in missionary work and took time to write most of the missionaries from thi this s community while they were in the field and he never wrote a missionary without inclosing at least a dollar bill he was also chairman of the stake old folks committee the stake cal association and was closely affiliated with the stake scandinavian organization aie tilled a mission to denmark a number of years ago and after being there about a year was joined by his wife who also labored in the mission field until his return home in 1904 he was waa a high priest in the box elder stake at the time of his hia death surviving are his wife mrs rozilla petersen and one brother peter pe tereen of this city funeral services will be held saturday afternoon at 2 at the third ward chapel under the direction of bishop H IV valentine interment will be in the city cemetery |
