Show Two-County Educators Meet Study Ethics Garfield and Piute County Educators held a mid-year workshop in Pangultch on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 19 and 20. All teachers, supervisors and superintendents of both districts were In attendance. The workshop was built around the theme of Professional Ethics for Teachers. It featured two general sessions and two workshop problem-solving sessions. Work In the workhsop was divided Into five groups as follows: ( 1 1 How Can We As Teachers Promote Better Relationships With The Community? 121 What Can We Do To Promote Greater Loyalty In the Membership or the Profession to Each Other and to Pupils? in) What Kind of Citizen Should the Teacher Be? (t) Whoshould have tho Responsibility for Raising the Finances for the Support of the Public School System? 5 What Can Wo Do to Insure Continuous Professional Crow th and Upgrading Stand-aids Within the Profession? Teachers were divided Into the fhe groups according to their Interests. Specially Invited guests acted as consultants one to each workshop group. They were J. Elliot Cameron, Supt. of Schools In Sevier District; Dr. Daryl Chase. Director of CSU; Dr. El-vert Hlmes, President Dixie College; Mary McMillan, Supervisor Elementary Education, Iron County School District; Dr. E. T. Pemari, College of Education, V. of V. Resides acting as consultants to the vanous workshop groups, each of the guests spoke to the entire group assembled. Main values that came from the workshop were that teachers want to formulate their own professional standards for training and relationships. They do not want someone to do It for them. Districts in rural outly ing areas can probably best at , tract and hold good teachers by having high standards of expi'C ancy for teacher performance ObJcctlvs for realization of th" recommendations that grow out of the workshop thould be made including some kind of time, schedule. The workshop was planned by Mr. Joseph Foy of Pangultcii. Mrs. Edith Nichols of Tropic Mr. Roland Porter of Escalante Supt. John Oiparson of Marys vale; Del Mar Nelson ol Antt mony, Jean Ilanwn of Hatch Elementary Supervisor Nilll.-Hlgbee of Pangultch. Supt Floyd H. Holm of PaiiKultrh. The workshop was under general chairmanship of Jo, pit Foy. Group leader were C. 13. Ciane, Mary lieur, Lynn Jensen, Russell Merrell. William Blackwell. Recorders were Grace Rejnolds, Herman Houston, Janet Willi i, Ixirenzo Griffin, Barbara Weber. A feature of the conference was a dinner for all teachers at Bryco Canyon Cafe Friday evening. This was under tho direction of the Garfield and Piute Counties Education Asm. ' |
