Something now to tho interests of the fruit growers and potato raisers along tho lines of tho Oregon Short Lino was begun this week by the railroad company, boing nothing loss than the installation of a demonstration de-monstration or lecturing train which passed through tho B. R. valley Thursday and yesterday and will mako Northorn Utah and Southern Idaho before returning re-turning to Salt, Lake. The train is an equipped special, spec-ial, consisting of a baggage, car, two largo composite coaches and a largo day coach carrying implements for tho demonstration demonstra-tion of potato cultui;o and orchard orch-ard heating, and on these two subjects lectures wore delivered deliver-ed by exports secured for tho purpose by the railroad company. com-pany. The personnel of the party is as follows: Eugene H. Grubb of Carbon-dale, Carbon-dale, Colorado, expert on potato culture. H. L. Edgerton, expert on seed potatoes. James Hamilton and M. Ma-honey, Ma-honey, of Grand Junction, Colo., exports on orchard heating. J. E. Wing, editior of the Breeder's Gazetto of Chicago, 111., expert on soils. W. S. Guilford, director of tho agricultural department of Twin Falls North Side Land and Water company, general agricultural agr-icultural export. Prof. L. M. Merrill, Prof. E. D. Bull of the Agricultural college, and J. Edward Taylor, secretary of tho stato board of horticulture. Thovhole subject of potato culture, which has assumed such gratifying proportions throughout through-out northern Utah and ldoho, was fully dealt with by these experts, their talks being illustrated ill-ustrated and amplified by means of implements, samples and demonstrations of methods. Orchard heating was also completely com-pletely demonstrated. T ho t r a i n left Salt Lake City on Thursday morning Jan. 20th. Made stops at "Wood's Cross, Farmington, Kaysvillo, Davis county; Clearfield and Ogden, Weber county; Brig-ham, Brig-ham, Box Elder county. Passed Pass-ed through Garland Trursday night enroute to Malad and returned re-turned to this city Friday morning morn-ing and a good-sized crowd turned out and were well paid for attending. Tho to'tal cost of tho special train, export lectures, equipment equip-ment etc,, is borne by tho pas-songordopartmontof pas-songordopartmontof the Oregon Short Lino, and was arranged ar-ranged by D. E. Burley, general gen-eral passenger agent. The train will bo on the road nearly a month, according to plans of the present itinerary. The lec-turo lec-turo course have been prepared especially for the benefit of the farmers, ranchers and fruit growers of the conutry through which tho Short Lino passes, and contains the latest scientific developments in tho way of protection and potato culture known. Lectures are given daily, and for tho most part in the cars attached to tho special train. It has been so arranged that one lecturo is carried on in one of tho cars, and another an-other in tho second car, and at at tho conclusion of the first talk tho lecturers exchango places, and as a consequence, those in attendance secure the benefit of the entire double course.
