Salt Lako City, Amelia Fols'om Young, widow of President Brlgham Young, and ono of the best known women In tho United States, died Sunday Sun-day at her homo In this city. At her bedside at tho tlmo of ;leatb was a notable group of mon and women, wom-en, whoso lives and doings, alont with hers, ilnto back to tho early days of Mormonism. Death was duo to a fatal form ot paralysis which had been creeping steadily upon her for threo ycais, following fol-lowing a stroko which temporarily disabled dis-abled her. Amelia Folsom Young was born at Buffalo, N. Y., August 3, 183S. Sho was married' to President Brlgham Young on Jnnuary 24, 1SC3, having been acquainted ac-quainted with President Young Blncc, as a child of five, her future husband had held her on hto kneo. Moved by his infatuation for this beautiful and Intelligent woman, President Pres-ident Young built tho famed Amelia palace, filled It with beautiful things and placed his wife In It as queen ol all Its beauties. There she reigned, a goodly woman, using her Influonco In all niiectlons to tho bettering of things In Utah. With the death of Brlgham ftung in 1877, sho Bold tho Amelia pnlace, and bought tho old family homo at No. 6 South First West, where sho spent tho remainder of her days. |
