Show DROWNED IN QUICKSAND HOLE Terrible Fate of Two Boys Who Were Engulfed In Treacherous Sand Just as Help Was In Sight. Albuquerque, N. M. George Fiefer, aged 11, and his brother Frank, 13, while swimming in tho Gila river near Red Rock, about 4 o'clock Saturday afternoon, were drowned In a quicksand quick-sand hole. Frank stepped Into the hole. George went to his aid, pulling on the arms of his brother in a frantic fran-tic effort to retard him from the engulfing en-gulfing sand. His foot slipped and in another moment he lost his balance and tumbled Into the treacherous mud. At first they struggled fiercely, sinking sink-ing deeper every moment. Then, seeing see-ing that their struggles only enmeshed en-meshed them the more, they desisted and began shouting for help. Just as the boys' heads went under some men saw the bubbles on the surface of the hole and hastened to their aid, but too late. When the bodies were recovered, life was extinct. |
