Show Terrific Wind Storm The severest windstorm in a number of years swept over the northern portion of the state last Saturday night and lasled about two hours. Tho wind began be-gan blowing from the southwest at first; but switched to tho northwest and reachsd a vol- ocity of 72 miles" an hour. Salt air and tho Lucin cut-oft wero badly damaged by tho storm. ' Excitement prevailed in this city during tho wind-storm, but no serious damage was done. Pur fine liberty pole at tho Amusement hall was blown down which fell accross the telephone lino and broke the wires. Tho loose wires came in contact with a live wire of the Bear River Power Co's Plant aud fire was thrown in all directions for a season. A down poor of rain followed which put an end to the fireworks. fire-works. Had it not been for the rain a big fire in town would have boon the result. One large plate glass window of tho B. M. & P. Co. was demolished by the storm. Out side of toppiing over a number of sheds, outbuildings, out-buildings, etc, there is no serious seri-ous damage to report, but wo don't want to oxperonco another windstorm like that for a long, long time. Ofcourso tho big wind-storm postponed the grand ball that was to have been given at the Amusement hall last Sasurday night, but the big event conies off to-night if it donU blow like blazes. |
