An omnibus bill providing pro-viding separate statehood for the ter-terltorlcs, ter-terltorlcs, of New Mexico and Arizona was Introduced in tho house on January Jan-uary 30, by Representative Hamilton of Michigan, chairman of the houso committee on territories. Tho bill was framed by tho Republican mem bers of tho committee and submitted to tho minority members, who have approved it. New Mexico is given two representatives represen-tatives in tho houso of representatives, representa-tives, to bo elected at large, and tho city of Santa Fo Is designated ns tho capital of the Btato until 1920. Most ot the provisions for Arizona are similar to those for New Mexico. Phoenix is designated as the capital until 1920. Arizona Is given one representative rep-resentative In the houso of representatives, represen-tatives, 120,000 acres of lnnd nro granted for university purposes, and other grants are equal to Uioso mado for Now Mexico. |
