Show i 4 I 1 ALTON 1 I 1 S the tor for independence day wig was held on abo ad of july those who wished a chance to attend the official opening of the zion mt aft carmel road tho the people of hatch and alton joined together in celebrating the program in the morning and the sports in the afternoon and the dance in the evening was held in the twin pines pavilion which wa was s pr prettily c etli y d decorated corat e d with red white and blue streamers and bunting which helped to add to the air of festivity the shade of the tall and beautiful pines made everything cool and pleasant and the babeu view was indeed a feast tor for the soul roy porter of hatch acted as an marshal of the day the program in the morning was as follows song gong america by audience prayer by chaplain bishop barnhurst of hatch recitation verlo verie f declaration of inde independence penitence peni lence by floyd heaton song nathan roy and eldon porter and sam riggs jokes by uncle sam sam riggs speech by goddess helen robertson stump speech dee wilson music by martial band oration hoyt palmer song star spangled banner by audience after the program luncheon was served everyone present enjoying the delicacies provided in the afternoon a dance was given for the children then numerous sports and games were enjoyed by all present elder floyd heaton kindly consented to sing ramona in the german language which was indeed a musical treat and greatly appreciated in the evening the dance wass was a great success a large number being g present the music was furnished by the alton and hatch orchestras thus ended one of the best celebrations ever hold held here every event being put over with vim and reflecting great credit to all taking part and to the several committees who worked so hard to make the day the splendid success it was mr and mrs alma wilson from the north were here on the 3rd ard visiting with their sisters erB mrs b D H heaton and mrs arthur glover mr and mrs john roundy of pleasant grove mr and mrs otho roundy of af draper mr and mrs masv W bacon and ion gardello of salt lake and miss orma woodard and miss mathewson ot of cedar city were visiting in alton on the 3rd ard the family of mrs malinda roundy were having a family reunion in zion park after attending the celebration at the opening of the tunnel monday they in company with bishop and mrs roundy went for a fishing trip returning tuesday mr and mrs john D roundy and son have been visiting a few days with othello roundy and family mr and mrs wm al cox and five of their children made a trip to order ville on july 1 to attend the cox reunion they report having a very enjoyable time meeting with father and mother brothers and slaters sisters relatives and friends there mr cox met his mother with all the rest of her children they had bad not been together for twenty seven years they came from many pla cesto their old home town william from alton charles eunice and orvllle orville from shelley idaho susie from hurricane anly amy from sterling clarrisa Cl arriba all but bu one were accompanied by their companions pan ions five were there here with all of their children and three with part of their families D M cox the father met with all but four of his children out of ot seventeen with many grandchildren and great grandchildren |
