attended the celebration at the now new bridge over the colorado river near ferry have all returned homo lees leo with words of praise for tri construction and grand grandeur eur of the now new bridge which spans the great chasm that cuts through the east cast end 0 of the house rock valley wending its way to the ocean the bridgeo is located at a point about 6 miles south ot of lees ferry where the canyon narrows up to about bloor goo COO feet the arch of the bridge which ts is lodged rock being approximately GOD COO feet long and with an approach on the west 0 of a possible feet and the approach on the ev east at possibly halt half as long it la Is a most wonderful structure and la Is a most worthy enterprise on the part of the state slate of arizona which has expended 2500 oo as aa the big desert and mountain the next day by noon all had ar rived at the bridge ready for the big celebration which started promptly at by the governors governor fr of 0 four states cutting the barrier on the bridge which would unite the states of utah arizona new mexico a and nd Ne nevada ivada all four governors being present but governor balzar of nevada was not permitted to remain for the services as he be was suddenly called home after breaking the bottlo bottle of champagne on the bridge by the wife 0 of governor phillips of arizona and the clipping of the ribbon by governor Ps representing the removal removal of the harrier barrier between th the states the procession headed for the platform letl by the big indian band from the government school at phoenix also the high school band of winslow arizona Ar liona and the dixie college band 0 st george utah followed by the tha national guard of arizona composed ot of indians and then tile the governors and the people who fzens of 0 arizona depicting the settlement ot of arizona by the mormon people depleting depicting scenes as the call by brigham young jacob hambling Hamb llna lins council death ot of george A smith drowning of roundy and all hardships of early days the tha pageant was interspersed by music from the bands in attendance each band taking their place when called calle d on at the conclusion of the pageant president deat heber J grant and his bis counselor anthony W ivins ivana addressed the people on building an empire and Me memories morles the afternoon of the second day was set aside for sports between the tribes of indians present there being several tribes present some indians came in their old tribal ways such as horses old wagons ete etc but most of oc the indians indiana were driving ang up to date cars and trucks there was a bank there for tho the handling of scrip for the indians converting into cash without discount about noon on the people began moving out the roads over which they had to travel both on the east cast and west side of the river that would take people home were ej rw rough and bad that people were wc forced to leave early so as to reach before nightfall the roads from utah side from jacobs lake to the bridge a distance of 48 miles was wag over a rough mountain known as or derville canyon and little buckskin tho the road having been fixed to some extent to allow the travel after descending sc se the mountain into house rock valley talley then the road led out over a rolling country of sand which drifted with the winds almost like snow it was reported that the roads road s from the bridge to flagstaff or well down inlo arizona on the east side of tho the river were much the eaifie same and the people encountering difficulty in traveling them the people leaving the bridge the afternoon oc at the second day returned to their homes and to tife the buckskin mountain stopping at jacobs lake V T park ant and the me grard canyon quito a sight sigh also on the trip was the traveling down the valley where the river runs them people coming in from arizona on one side of the tha ishver and ilae the people from the utah arte on the other and the dust of 0 the cars from each side visible to the other side and yot yet they get to each other without going to the bridge about twenty carloads of leopla attended the dedication of
