Show experiences TOLD BYJ BY W J L los angles cal editor news I 1 left willard for los angles on nov 1919 and arrived here the next day at 7 p m and found my daughter mabel waiting at the tor for me she had bad rented a comfortable apartment and was very lucky to get one lor for it is hard to tind find places to rent down here the next day atter after my arrival I 1 took a walk through pershing park and came across many of my old friends robert roberts of los angles jones of chicago rev pritchard of arizona jones of nebraska owens of dakota and others too numerous to mention on sunday we went to the L D S church to attend services but president was not there it was fast day and I 1 heard some of the strongest testimonies I 1 had ever listened lo 10 0 o one would no sooner sit down than another would get up and I 1 thoroughly enjoyed listening to some of those veterans before leaving my home in willard I 1 determined to a visit to all the aged people of 0 the ward over 80 years so I 1 saddled up my pony and rode down to the big dam to see sister sarah woodland but she had gone to ogden so I 1 turned back and called at the mckay place to sed see win christy who is 84 years of age and was very glad to see me I 1 next called on sister whitaker who was 99 years of age on december 13 1 I had a nice visit with her and she is feeling fine then I 1 called to see emma who is 81 years old she has all her faculties and had as much to say as ever that completed the day but I 1 continued my rounds the next day and called upon george harding the oldest man in willard Wll lard being 86 years of age he Is a wonderful man works every day and I 1 have lived close to him as a neighbor tor for a great many years bathia ill la wells 88 years of age and the mother of the ali sf white mile malo CRI ta born in box elder county said she was always glad to see me and reminded me of her son mort who Is long since dead and at whose funeral I 1 spoke she told of a trip we made to the promontory when I 1 got very cold and her son took off his coat and put it on me and remarked to his mother afterwards that he guessed he had done some good that day even it if he ha was one of the wildest boys in willard I 1 next called upon mary jones 81 91 yra of age who Is enjoying good health but has poor eyes I 1 had a nice visit with mr air beasley 81 years of age and a civil war veteran then went over and saw john taylor also 81 years ot of age aud and one of the teamsters who went to the missouri river after immigrants in 1 I visited sister scoter a sales lady and as I 1 came back called upon sister facer who will be 80 years old in january jn L ni iary uary she is very well and enjoying life there are five males and six females over 80 years of ago age residing in willard out of a laton of 0 what pleasant remembrances I 1 had looking at the willard mountains as I 1 saw them way beack in 65 55 when I 1 first cattle came to willard my sister and I 1 came along with a man who had a yoke of cattle and wagon who was going to willard to buy some wheat when we got to the weber river the man said my sister could ride across but the men must wade which we did and I 1 got my boots full of water and slept in an old empty house in that condition that night next day I 1 was taken down sick but when we got past the hot springs and I 1 saw the willard mountains mount alna they looked so natural as I 1 had seen them in dreams way back in wales and I 1 felt to say as did brigham young this is the place drive on I 1 have lived there 64 years and have raised a large family under those high and rugged mountains which have always been inspiring and fascinating to me especially the three peaks which stand like sentinels guarding the little city which nestles at their feet I 1 recall a trip I 1 once made to the top of those peaks I 1 got onto my surefooted sure tooted footed pony billy and rode up willard canyon taking the right hand band fork through balsam grove and thru the stately pines around the beautiful little take lake and to the top the three peaks looked tar far below mo ins aud and tile the peak farthest south seemed to be higher than the others 1 tied up my horse and made my aaion way on toot climbed to the very top finding the peak split a freak of nature I 1 suppose the view I 1 had from there was grand and glor tou lous and I 1 have not words to express my feelings or describe the picture I 1 was the first white man to scale that 0 peak well I 1 am enjoying myself fine and send happy new year greetings to all my friends at horne home I 1 JOHN L EDWARDS |
