on ont the f mayor presented the men with the keys of the city with which any door in the city including the jail could be unlocked however we saw no need for them as the door of the jail stood invitingly open and the doors of all the homes were already ajar some interesting speeches were made and we were told of the beauties and future possibilities of garfield county mr southern candidate many beautiful brick homes a new high school building a prosperous banking institution a now new modern hotel and Car carnagie nagle library they also have an attractive resort at panguitch lake where river A substantial steel bridge spans the river we burn eastward and travel over a splendid roadway constructed by the forest service ervice the road to the tha south leading t to 0 kanab and the grand canyon As we enter red canyon the scenic beauties of the bryce region begin to appear the boulevard which is broad and since smooth th winds and twists between betres n the brilliant hued spires and the bright green of the tall pines forms a decided contrast with the fantastic red spires that overtop them two tunnels have been driven through projecting reefs and the panorama viewed through them is ia enchanting after passing through tho the canyon we journeyed for t ten en miles through a beautiful embowered empowered ered glade to the rim of bryce the culmination of ria natures curious whose citizens are now building an auto road from that place to encircle bryce just under tho the rim A shelf will be hewn out for tile the boulevard so that the tourist may view the scone scene from every angle when completed this will without doubt bo be tho the most scenic highway on the continent unique and matchless trails lead down from the brink to the gorges below and lie ho who do lights lighta in exploring may descend and wend his way through the narrow defiles so narrow are arc those these passes that often both sides of the pillars may be touched with outstretched arms and so numerous nume roua oro are these paths that on several occasions tourists have been lost in them and for several hours wandered aimlessly in the maze at several places ladders have been constructed to
