Show THE VATICAN'S RELICS. Coancd by the Tope to the Colunibi&n Exposition Ex-position and Not Yet Returned. The state department at Washington Is considerably troubled with the care ol certain large packing cases piled up in the sellar of the building marked, "The Vatican, Rome, Italy." They contain tho priceless manuscripts and relics ! Columbus lent by his holiness the pope to the Columbian exposition. By an arrangement made with tho American minister to the Italian court tho Columbus collection was brought to the United States on board an American Amer-ican man-of-war, and a guarantee was given that it should be returned to the proper place in Rome by the same method meth-od cf transportation Unfortunately, however, it has been impossible up tr thi9 time to return these articles to theii rightful owner from tho f act that Ainer lean men-of-war have not been receir ing orders which would take them In the vicinity of tha historic seven hillo city. Special pains and care, however, axi taken with these relics and curios c-' the great explorer at the state depart raent, and watchmen have been detnil-ic! to keep constant vigii over them during the entire 24 hours of the day.
