Show r THE WAY TO LOOK AT IT. Take the United States,M6iico,Ont-ral States,M6iico,Ont-ral America, South America, The Islands of the Pacific, The far east, including in-cluding China, Japan, the East Indias, ail silver using nationa and devoted to the double standard, ana wa have a constituency wht.-li is not oniy able to re monetize silver, but to maintain the double standard until the crack of doom. Before such a combination as the above which ia perfectly feasible, the petty mon,ey changers of London, Amsterdam, Berlin, Paris, St. Peleis- burg and Vienna would not last a twelvemonth. In the light of the perfectly per-fectly logical and practical combination combina-tion on the Bilver question the best thinkers of both Europe and America expreBS wonder that we go on tamely submitting to the dictation of tbe gold men. It is indeed a profound mysiery and there is no other tenable explanation explana-tion outside of habit. We have so tamely submitted for bo many years Ithat the habit of receiving the financial law from the gold standard people has grown a veteran one and it is only the force of habit which induces in-duces us to still tamely submit. Every reasonable probability ia inour favor if we would tomorrow restore silver to its old time equality with gold. With the natural backing we have named the final outcome .would not be lor one moment doubtful. Europe Eu-rope would be forced to come in to the arrangement in a year, or see her commerce split in two at a stroke so far as volume would go, and a big advantage given us so far ai profit ia concerned. We have always taken this position and it is perfectly logical and reasonable in every respect. We have the means in our own bands of forcing the double-standard upon the world. We supply by far the largest bulk of the provision materials of the world and we can increase our capacity In this way enormously whenever when-ever the condition of the markets makes it desirable or profitable to do so. Thus we start with the Winning Win-ning cards in our own hands. .Let the peace which now prevails in Europe be disturbed but for a day and then will become apparent tbe wonderful advantage we hold in all this. Whenever When-ever the day comes that transportation transporta-tion from the steppes of Rueeia to the western markets of Europe is interrupted inter-rupted by war, we will see the solution of this problem. So many years of peace have prevailed that the gold standard nations have forgotten the intricate in-tricate problem of provision supplies. Let this peace now prevailing be disturbed dis-turbed but for a montn and every idle ship on the ocean would be called upon to carry our provision supplies to Europe. Eu-rope. This is no dream. It is a stern reality and one which is likely to come to pass sooner than we can now realize. Let the new czar of Bus3ia throw off the pacific policy which has so long distinguished that great empire, and all our dreams of the worth of our position and productions will become vast realities. Then our silver allies will put a belt about the earth. Then the . double-standard Europe, prince and potentate, czar and king, queen aid president, emperor emper-or and grand duke, will each be on his knees asking humbly to be taken into the double-standard league of the west and the east. If we are only trae to ourselves and true to our opportunity, this dream will become a fair reality before three years have rolled around. Then every mill will be busy, every epindle whirring, every forge at work and the busy farmers of the west will be taxed to their utmost to feed the toiling, fighting millions of Europe. |
