The usual business of the temporary organization, the appointment of committees com-mittees on credentials permanent organization, or-ganization, etc., was transacted at the forenoon session and adjournment was taken till 3 o'clock, A committee on new organization 01 tne party, aiso one consisting of 7 members on resolutions resolu-tions were alBO elected. It was after 3 o'clock before the convention con-vention convened, bo heated was the canvass among delegates for candidates candi-dates for the various offices. Whan the convention did convene, all the committees were not ready to report. 1 O. W. Powers was sustained as permanent per-manent organization and bb our report re-port closes the real work of the convention con-vention is just beginning. It's a safe guess, so one informant declares over the 'the telephone at 3:15, that Samuel Thurman oi Utah county and Thomas Maioney of Ogden will be nominated for the supreme bench. Salt Lake has three candidates, Judge Sutherland, Oj-den Hiles and R. W. loung. The nomination for governor is going a begging. Judge King can take it if he will. The situation situa-tion is that Roberts has strong support for congressman. King has solid support sup-port of Utah county, a large share of Weber county and ' Bupp&rtf"ii6ul CtX counties, but it is thought not enough to elect. He has just arrived in Ogden and has said he is seriously considering consider-ing the proposition ot dropping out of the congressional race. Friends are flocking to him, begging of him to accept ac-cept the nomination for governor. It is doutf ul whether he will or not, probably prob-ably not. No safe guess can be made at this writing as to who the nominees for the other offices will be. |
