Show The Constitutional Convention. The constitutional oonvention, which has been going at a snail's pace, is at the end of its rpe. In plainer language, lan-guage, the S30.000 appropriation is now reduced to U,lhS, and even this musi now be held back in order to assure the salaries of the officers of the convents conven-ts n. Therefore, the body may be expected ex-pected to immediately strike an average, aver-age, by rushing through with mightv haste the volume of business before it and throwing aside important questions in its mad haste. The new condition is all right for the Salt Lake members though, to tell the truth, they cannot get up any enthusiasm aboit it. But the country members are the ones who are being struck the hardest. They haye hotel bills to pay and with many of them, patriotism is oozing out very fast. The length of the session is now variously estimated at from 10 to 15 days. Yesterday was spent in consideration ofthe article on 1 abor and arbitration and part of the article on revenue anr, taxation. The discussion on the latter article was continued to a late hour. It will be continued today. Varian is fighting the committee all along tht line, and will empheiza his opposition on the section regarding taxation of mortgages. A great deal of feeling has been worked up on this, and a stronp fight may be brought on. |
