Show Obituary, Contributed. Brother Edward Meecham was born Feburary 22, 1802, in Grafton county, New Hampshire. About the year 1827 he married Irena Currier of Pennsylvania; Pennsyl-vania; was baptized by Elder Albert Prown in Mercer county, Pennsylvania in April 1838; was ordained an elder under the hand of Nathan Tanner, thence moved to .Nauvoo. and was ordained a seventy in 1839;left Nauvoo in 1846, thence went to Council JJluffd, assisted in looking after the families who were left by the Mormon battalion in 1851; he moyed with his family to Salt Lake city, arriving in the fall of the same year. Deceased was the father of four children, two sons and two daughters; by his wife Irena Currier he had one son and two daughters. In the spring of 1852 be moved with his family to Provo, he was ordained a high priest August 6, 1975 under the hands of Elder David John. He was the grandfather to 30 jfrand children, 103 great grand children and 22 great-great grand children. Since 1852 he has been a resident of Provo until his death, which took place at his home July 31, 1895, He was 93 years, 5 months and 9 days old; he died as he had lived, a faithful .au'ber of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day SaintB, THE FUNERAL SERVICES over the remains of Eider Edward Meecham were held in the Second Ward meeting-bouse .Friday, August 2, 1895, at 2 o'clock. Obituary of deceased's de-ceased's life was read. Bishop Evan Wride conducted the services. After singing and prayer, the speakers in their order were : James E. Daniels, Aibert Jones, 8. P. Eggertsen jr., A. Halladay, C. D. Evans, Bishop Cob-ley Cob-ley of Pleasant Grove, Heed Smoot Bishop Knudsen and David John, each of them offering consoling words to the bereaved widow and children and grand children, each of them testifying testify-ing to the good qualities and faithfulness faithful-ness of Brother Meecham. He was patient and endured his sufferings without murmuring. He had gone to his rest like a chock of corn fully ripe, with the hope of a glorious resurrection; resurrec-tion; he had fought the good fight, and had been faithful, and died as he had liyed, trus to his integrity. His faith in the gospel never wavered, and there was laid up for him a crown of glory which would never fade away. Admonished Ad-monished the children and grand children to follow his noble no-ble example, Encouraged his wife he had left behind to be faithful and true to the gospel. She had been true to him in lile and watched over him, and did everything for his comfort and her reward would be sure. Bishop Wride made a few closing remark", testifying to the faithfulness and integrity in-tegrity ot the departed one, and adding words of comfort to tht widow. After singing by the choir, -'Nearer my Gjd to Toee" the benediction was pronounced by James A. Loveless. Love-less. A large number of vehicles followed fol-lowed his remains to the cemetry. Peace to his ashes. |
