We can now see very plainly which of the two political parties favors woman wo-man euffrage. Republicans almost universally are commending the decision, de-cision, and democrats are doubtful of its correctness There is a reason for this. There is now a political principle involved and we do not think w can afford to allow a decision rendered by a tecb nical "bare majority of the supreme court to stand, unappealed from. It is true it is difficult to get the case baard by the supreme court of the United States in time to do any good, but there is one way open to move that aueust bodv to advance the cace upon the calendar and consider it. Let our democratic etate convention on the 5th adopt some ringing resolutions resolu-tions on the subject calling for the earliest possible action by that body, and then let our attorneys discues the case in that court on the theory that the people by their constitution are supreme, and the enabling act, all other acta of congress, and territorial laws, whilst having full validity in all territorial affairs, in state affaire are only aids for the development of a higher power, that of the people of a etate, and by bo doing we shall give expreseion to one of the greatest principles prin-ciples of democracy, and command the attention and respectful consideration i of the supreme court. This is a golden opportunity for the true democracy of Utah to make itself felt in the nation, and The Dispatch urg3S this upon the convention. Let ut make this or battle cry this fall, and march triumphantly into the union, a democratic Etate won by the democracy on an issue involving the most sacred principles of human liberty. |
