Show Last Niffht's Concert. The first of the series of three emulative em-ulative concerts under the auspices of the young People's Mutual Improvement Improve-ment associations of the Utah Stake of Zion, in quaiterly conference today in Provo, was given last evening in the stake tabernacle. The program ex-'"ot ex-'"ot the opening and closing nieces by the choir was rendered wholly "by youcg lauies and it was eminently eatis factory. The concert was deserving oi better patronage bv the public than it received. The program rendered after "Hail Bright Abcde" by the stake tabernacle choir was as follows. "In Old Madrid" by Mies Nellie Holiday Ho-liday of Provo. This was well rendered. The young lady's articulation was especially good, "BirdR in Dreamland Sleep" by Mrs. Milliey Bromley Garff of Lehi. Mrs. Garff has a very fine voice, well under centrol. "That Melody Divine" by Miss Emma Ellsmere of American Fork. This lady has a powerful voice and with a little more cultttion will develop de-velop into one of 'tali county's favorite singers. "Wooing" by Miss Bmerett Cutler of Lehl. Although laboring uder a slight cold Miss Cutler sang wh very good ex pression. . Piano solo, "Old Bla Joe" by Mrs. H. C. T. Anderson of Ll. In this selection the jrformer displayed dis-played excellent techni(Je and the interpretation in-terpretation of the f miliar melody with elaborate variatioi was wholly satisfactory to the auriie:e and critics. "Armour," a hymn b: Provo ladies' chorus waa rendered wii attack and blending. ,4:-iock of Ages" by si ladies from American Fork was jndered very prettily. However, the ppranos were tlightly heavy for the ofcr parts. In other respects the expreaion was good "It Was a Dream," a cbntralto boIo by Miss Emma John of PrW This selection is a iztar difficult one, but good intonation at clear articulation ar-ticulation were special feattes of the rendition. 1 Tte duette, "O'er Hill atj Dale" by Mrs. Garff and Miss M. Smijh of Lehi was a yery pretty selection nicely Bung It was evident that the singers were suffering considerably from "stage fright." The quartette, "Beautiful Sea" by ladies ot the Proyo Secomf ward Bhowed taleDt and good voices, and with a little lit-tle more attention to proper pronunciation pronuncia-tion the young ladies would improve tdeir singing. "Cheerfulness," a duett by the Harrison Har-rison sisters of Springvillee, a very difficult dif-ficult selection, was so well rendered as to tempt the audience to demand an encore. The rule of the evening was, however, "no encores." The program closed with "The , Gloria" by the tabernacle choir. THIS AFTERNOON, A grand choral reunion ia being held and there are some very pretty selections selec-tions on the program. There is a good audience out. THIS EVENING. The program is a magnificent one m deed. Favorite singers, both male and female are on it, and there is sure to be a handsome audience out to "hear it. |
