To Jay we are enduring the tortures of a typical summer day in Michigan. Not a leaf stirs. Your readers may zet an idea of what wo are enduring bvjnigining how warm it is when facing an engine room of some largo marMfacturing establishment. All else is 'ly. Nature Na-ture has her prettiest dresfson, and the ! birds are busy sinking. This is a great week in musical and society circles. The first May festival will come off tomorrow and Saturday, the C iral Union of the university numbering num-bering 280 voices, Boston Festival orchestra (fifty performers) and such noted artists as Emma Juch, Max Heinrlch, Arthur Geise, Felix Winter nitz, Arthur Friedheim, the gieat LUzt" interpreter, etc., etc., will take part. It is not riskv to Btate that it will be the chance of ,'a life time to hear such an Aggregation of soloists Several of the " Utahs" wiJl take part-in part-in the audience. ' The town and Detroit papers have contained gcoa accounts of the Carterites' Carter-ites' doings at Provo and vicinity and, for a wonder, when compared to the versions of our Utah papers, we find the eastern journals have not stretched the particulars. The Utah students who return to the "promised land" this June, have, through the keen and splendid management man-agement of Hyrum S. Harris, secured a very satisfactory rate. We take our homeward trip through Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas and Colorado. The eastern roads did the most cutting in rates. The 8t Thomas choir, assisted by a large, grand orchestra, harpist, flutist, cellist, etc., under direction of their organist and Choir-Master John J. Mb-Clellan.gave Mb-Clellan.gave a very hueJiconcert last Monday evening. After tile concert a banquet was tjren Ma. McClellan and those that took part, y the priest of the church, assisted bylladies of the congregation.
