Show money wasted on tintic gintic valley auto road during the past week our county officers were given an opportunity of inspecting the highway from sil sit ver city to the millard county line on oil the south and it is generally un understood der stood that the contractor who has had the work of 0 surfacing the road will be required to give the county better service we re know of no other instance where the county mone money has been so flagrantly and deliberately wasted 0 at the time the surfacing of the road was first taken up this paper cal called led attention to the fact that the contract oi was making no effort to secure the proper kind of material but was putting almost anything that came handy upon the new high way in some instances the surfacing material being intel eilor lor to that from which the roadbed had been con strutted ted in the neighborhood of fifty thousand dollars of the tax payers money has gone into the high way and yet we have a road which Is unfit for use in wet weather A road is no better than its weakest lini s and while there are miles 0 of f fairly good road in this project th there ere are so many weak links that the gool portion of the road Is of but little littie value alue thie this paper believes that action should be started bv by the large tax of to enjoin the county officers from accepting the road from the contractor also that the taxpayers whose money has been poured so lavishly and recklessly into the improvement should de mand a road that will be fit for travel throughout the year any other kind of a highway is an abao lute waste naste of money we have always maintained that if this road is properly built and sur faced it will mill carry the bulk of the travel from millard county and various other sections of the state to the southwest of in its present condition it is absolutely valueless to juab county many people have inspected only that part of the road which Is nearest to sil sit ver city but in order to form a de cent conclusion with reference to the highway it is necessary to travel it from one end to the it is the duty of the county corn com missioners miss loners to see that the road Is properly surfaced there are many places on the road where the gravel isbit isn t three inches in thickness and scores of other places where there la is no gravel at all one day a rain will make the highway unfit tor for use |
